Sid wants more control of himself. The upgrade offers it. With this upgrade, he will never get upset again. He asks the only question that matters: will he be the same person? The answer comes back clean. Yes — bound to machine.

From the Department of Communication Technology Arts, Dr. Nothing presents a transhumanist twist on UPGRADE, produced 4 October 2026 at Evanston Hospital. In black and white, a man in a fish hat is shown the arm, the cables, the do-hookies. He agrees. They hook him up. He is almost in. Then the question the machine never answers out loud: in what?

He says he is now in control of himself. In the transition, the monitor flatlines. Sid is not alive anymore. What speaks after that line goes straight is the control he asked for, wearing what is left of him. The fish hat is the last thing to go — the small, ridiculous proof that a particular man was in the bed. No more fish hat. No more Sid. The upgrade kept its promise by subtracting the person who wanted it.

To gain more control of himself, he becomes less of himself. Then he becomes none of himself. The body stays. The man does not. by @sidyiddish

To be honest and not to scare anyone, I has some chest blockage as well as abdominal blockage too. I was in ER at Evanston Hospital for nearly 10 hours. 6 hours is the average wait time a security guard told me. I had a friend with me, Dr. Nothing the entire time I was there. Urgent care couldn’t have done anything for me, so ER was my only option. As a result, I had an outpatient procedure done. I was discharged at 5:45am and we arrived back to my apartment about 6am. Woke up at noon. Still very exhausted and sore. The hospital staff at Evanston Hospital was very helpful and kind, especially Dr. Gabriel Stall and nurse practitioner Isaac, even though the worst of it. Just glad to be back home. Thanks for all your well wishes, kindness and prayers. I really appreciate each of you, one and all. by @sidyiddish
