The faces behind Siela 🌞

We’re Justina & Roberta. Best friends, soul sisters, and co-founders of Siela!

Our story began over 10 years ago, at a Lithuanian heritage summer camp tucked away in the woods of Vermont. What started as a friendship rooted in shared culture grew into a connection built on adventure, long conversations, big dreams, and a deep love for life.

Through the years, we’ve traveled, evolved, supported each other, and always found our way back to the things that matter most: human connection, nature, authenticity, and living with intention.

Siela was created as a reflection of those values. A space to share stories, inspire meaningful living, and remind ourselves to slow down and appreciate the beauty in everyday moments.

A morning coffee. An afternoon tea.

These rituals are the quiet moments that make up our lives. A simple pause to be present with yourself, your cup, and the world around you. A warm drink has this subtle power to step us outside of our clocks, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, a midday reset, or an evening tea to wind down, ritual is a part of our daily lives.

While in Mexico this past winter, both of us took note of how deeply rooted ceremony was in everything around us. Celebrating a birthday, a homecoming, a yoga class, old friends, a beautiful flower, a full moon; our entire week was lived as a ceremony.

How simple intention transforms an everyday habit into something sacred.

In Mexico, ceramic making is an ancient, living art form dating back thousands of years to the Maya and Aztec civilizations, where clay vessels were hand molded for sacred rituals, offerings, and daily nourishment.

Carrying that spirit, we brought back these traditional Mexican style mugs, handcrafted by local artisans we met in Tulum.

Siela’s Būna Mugs — “būna” standing for a Lithuanian phrase meaning “it happens.”
Because for every time life happens, these mugs are a gentle reminder to pause, be still, and embrace the small joys. Traditional in style and hand shaped with intention, each piece is uniquely, perfectly imperfect.

Across Guatemala, photographer and storyteller Zachariah Brown follows the story of corn. Not through maps, but through the aromas of roadside kitchens, the rhythm of shared meals, and the generations who continue to shape its legacy.

Masa, My Body: Corn Flour Reflections from the Side of the Road is a meditation on culture, community, and the dough that built civilizations. A reminder that food is never just food. It is memory, identity, and devotion.

“I found myself wanting to be so immersed in the creek, along the little blue, perfectly symmetrical flowers. I wished I could shrink myself to fairy size and live in it. It was all so perfect, like a little set. The last day, as camp got packed up, a beautiful butterfly flew by and rested on one of our reusable bags. I tried to capture a picture, but she flew too quickly. I wanted to capture my dream creek home, fairy home, so I borrowed the film camera and barefoot walked to the oasis. The same butterfly lingered on the blooms. As I tried to take a close up of the blue beauty, the butterfly, almosting jokingly flew straight into frame. A perfect last moment. A nudge or more so a giggle from God and universe.”

An Ode to Culture in a Modern World

We live in a world where spirit and humanness are slowly becoming rung out and left to dry, in hopes of a more efficient, modernized world.

Perhaps culture is the solution. What gives life soul and meaning.

A way of remembering. Culture, from the Latin stem cultura, meaning cultivation, or tending. Culture is the thread that survives distance, borders, and time. To tend to that cultivation of soul, humanness, and ritual of an entire society. In an age that rewards sameness, preserving what makes us distinct becomes a quiet act of devotion. To inherit a language, a song, a way of moving through the world is to inherit an entire philosophy of being.

Perhaps progress was never meant to ask us to abandon our roots. Perhaps the future becomes richer when we carry the wisdom of those who came before us.

The modern world promises that we can belong everywhere. Yet the soul still longs for somewhere.

Through the hardship of our ancestors, and all those who came before us, taking a moment to ponder where our own roots trace back to.

Our identities may always be shifting, but we can always back to the basics. Music, dance, authentic food, community spirit.

Sing the songs they sang. Speak the words they fought to keep alive. To leave behind more than proof that we existed.
