Six years ago today, my beloved grandmother claimed her spot in Heaven. I was just a few weeks away from moving to Cincinnati and starting the next chapter of my life. My grandmother was truly my number 1 fan and always loved to watch me perform, even if it was just for the family.

A few months prior to her passing I was supposed to play Sophie in Mamma Mia and well….if you do the math you can probably figure out why that didn’t happen. So the first song, Thank You For The Music is a tribute to Sophie and my grandmother, because I truly have her to thank for my music. This is particularly special to me on this anniversary because as we approach another school year, I get the privilege of Assistant Directing and Choreographing Mamma Mia and although I’ve been able to revisit the show several times over the past six years, this feels the most full circle.

The second song, How Great Thou Art, is one of my favorites. It’s not one of the usual suspects I sang at family holidays but it always makes me think of her. She was the most loving woman and I know she’s dressing everyone in gold sequins in Heaven and oh boy I can’t wait to see what outfits and accessories she has waiting for me.

So I sit here getting ready to perform in one of the several shows I’ve been able to work on in the past six years and can’t help but smile. I find myself rarely having “I made it” moments because truthfully the hustle and bustle of it all distracts me, but today I feel grateful that this is my life.
