Inspired by a whimsical idea nearly a decade ago, Sienna Li took a long journey to bring to life an ethereal collection that is sewn to inventive perfection. In 2012, inspired at the onset with a photo of an aged tree with wandering roots from an article in Discovery magazine, Sienna was obsessed by its beauty and power. The tree looked so much like a back view of a lady wearing a giant, splendid gown. The trunk was like a lady’s body and the spreading roots that meandered and grasped the soil in deep were like the train of her gown. It took Sienna over a hundred hours of patternmaking and sewing to make this gown come to life in fabric. She made a complex dress with plenty of 3d texture mimicking the shapes of the tree. By retracing this premature but dreamy and ambitious idea in her early life, Sienna wowed her audiences during NYFW with playful, experimental designs that challenges and reinvigorates evergreen style norms.

This collection is named after Dryad, a tree spirit, a nymph of Greek mythology. By expanding the inspiration from a tree to various kinds of plants in the forest, Sienna sees them through an anthropomorphic lens.
