There's something super special about carrying a satchel of books into a bookstore when they're your own. This week I dropped off the very first copies of Nature Noises at The Well-Read Moose, and getting to watch them place it on the shelf was a moment I'll always remember!As a former park ranger, spending my days helping people connect with the outdoors inspired so much of this book. Seeing Nature Noises on the shelves of a local independent bookstore makes all the late nights and countless hours of writing and illustrating feel very real and extra worth it! If you're local to Coeur d'Alene, you can now find Nature Noises at The Well-Read Moose!. Thank you to everyone who's supported this little book so far. You all have helped me make this all possible! She followed the first flicker, and found a path that no map had drawn. This is one of the places she found...Testing the waters (pun intended 😜) for a project that I started writing & illustrating in the background of my other projects. My secret little project is a full-on middlegrade novel -- a semi-cozy adventure story that's going to have a bit of an 80s/90s vibe (hence the vhs 📼 look and music over this reveal), taking place is a rich and sprawling nature-fantasy world inspired by the pacific northwest 🌲🏔✨️The scene in this art reveal video is of the MC rowing a small boat through a lake at night, stirring up the #bioluminescence ✨️🌎🧭I really enjoyed creating the map in the background of the text part of this art revea! It's sort of a practice run for the main map of the book's overworld.I'll be showing off more scenes from this book by releasing sneak peeks here on insta and on my official blog over the course of the next few months as the project unfolds some more.Anyways, I'm really excited to start bringing this world to life and to share it, and my process with you all 🤗Please let me know what you think of this whole idea! If you're an artist, do you stick to one style or do you like branching out?I've been working on my children's illustration portfolio and realized I didn't really have any spot-illustrations, so I made this yesterday, do you like it?Been trying to do more "active" scenes to keep my skills sharp 😊 I feel like I don't have an art style..., I'm in the process of trying to find my style still (after 20 years of making art)...I see so many artists with a distict style of their own, but my Adhd has me getting bored doing the same style over and over again. Idk I enjoy doing this cartoony style though 🤷🏻‍♀️. I spent hours upon hours getting this one just right! My goal was to capture pure imagination, childhood wonder and dreams, and of course nostalgia for parents.
