This audio tidbit from the Hell & High Water Podcast involves someone I had the pleasure to meet in 2019 in Rotterbam when I first went aboard Arka Kinari.

Ben Skipper Blankenship. With a name like that, for coherence, of course his life had to involve sailboats at some point no?
I went through old pics I took back then and there he was, wearing that striped shirt from the audio clip, playing drums on the top of the mast and then fixing something likely very important on the bow stem.

Being on the boat during this phase is something I’ll always remember. I met a ton of interesting crazy people, artists and misfits as sometimes described and I got to see the insane learning curve they had to go through to reach the experience they have today.

Season 1 is fully out with its 5 episodes. That wraps up the prep of the vessel : it’s ready to actually go places and face dicey scenarios.

Subscribe, listen and share. I guarantee it’s worth it.

In a ship’s log remixed for deep listening, listeners are immersed into the true and ongoing voyage of Arka Kinari, an ancient sailing ship transformed into a cultural platform to sound the alarm for the climate crisis. You’ll explore seas and sounds, visit mega-ports and stilt villages, navigate through cyclones and plastic gyres, anchor in post-nuclear atolls, be hosted by sultans, threatened by soldiers, and blessed by shamans. You won’t know where this story ends, because we don’t know either.
