Soiree in order to hear what musicians and artists have to say in community, without the imposition of interview-style questions. Each artist sets their own pace, deciding how much is dialogue and how much is performance. The two can blend, shift, or stand alone, depending on what feels right in the moment. We’re back with another L’Soirée at LOULOU in a couple of weeks! Join us on Friday, July 10th from 6 to 9pm for an evening with Damon Locks and Andres L. Hernandez. We’ll open with bites and drinks, then settle in with the artists for sound performance/music and conversation. We’ll close with a meal around the table by the Lula Cafe team. Tickets are $95/per person and are available in our profile. Damon Locks (@blackmonumentensemble) is a Chicago-based visual artist, educator, vocalist/musician. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago where he received his BFA in fine arts. In 2025 he stepped down from being the Board President on Prison and Neighborhood Arts/Education Project which allowed him to teach art at Stateville Correctional Center for 11 years. He is a 2025 recipient of the Creative Capital Award and the Evolving Democracy Fellowship through Project&. He spent 4 years as an artist in residence as a part of the Museum of Contemporary Arts’ SPACE Program, introducing civically engaged art into the curriculum at Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy High School. He taught Improvisation in the Sound Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Andres L. Hernandez (@signifyingmonk) is a conceptual artist and educator who explores models for imagining and existing otherwise. To achieve this, his work spans a spectrum of authorship, participation, and location, from independent, studio-based art-making, collaboration with other artists, and community-based and socially-engaged practices. Hernandez’s projects include individual and collaborative commissions for Threewalls, University of Arizona, Venice Architecture Biennale, and Pulitzer Arts Foundation and Washington University in St. Louis. With the artist collective Dark Adaptive, he co-developed performances for The Drawing Center, Graham Foundation, MoMA, Sharjah Biennial, and Performa.
