I am grateful to @jamembassydc for trusting me, fresh from Kingston, with the role of moderating our recent diaspora event "A Conversation with Minister Johnson Smith" ๐ŸŽค โ€ข Although newly posted to the Embassy (woohoo! ๐Ÿฅณ) you know me, and so you know some way or the other I end up getting very involved wherever I am. It was lovely to see the Minister again while she visited Washington D.C. for the U.S.-Caribbean Dialogue this month. And wow, what an honour to be a part of an important conversation with Jamaican Diaspora here, particularly students, young professionals, educators exploring opportunities to connect with and invest their skills in Jamaica ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒโœจ โ€ข My main take-aways: 1. If there's an important global conversation going on, Jamaica "deh deh pon wi yeyelash" (we're not missing the party - Jamaica is actively involved in international events and decisions, especially the ones that affect us): 2. To be Jamaican is to have a strong identity and we have a skilled set of young diaspora in the DMV area and beyond that want to give back in niche ways as they connect with that identity. And 3. "We likkle but we tallawah" - we say it all the time, meaning that though small we are powerful. Jamaica is a leader in many things and we hope to lead in resilience and recovery as well, becoming a model for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) on how to bounce back from catastrophe. by @sih_breeze
"MORE" โ€ข Do you ever imagine your own funeral? And what it will be like for the people who love you? Who is going to be there? Who might cry? What the pastor will say? (And hoping they don't have your face photoshopped into some cheesy clouds on the programme?) ๐Ÿฅฒ One day I will no longer be here. But I'm happy that it's not today. That means there's more to become, more to create, more people to serve, more lessons to learn, more love to get, and more love to give. MORE. If you are reading this, then thank God that MORE is prescribed for you too ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ So the question is... what are you going to do with your MORE? by @sih_breeze
Are you using the Spanish verb GUSTAR wrong? Check out my latest video on #YouTube to find out why this verb that we use to express likes and dislikes works so weird. You'll also learn how to express the preferences of others as well as some additional verbs that work just like this. โ€ข I'll be doing lots of language education (Spanish and ESL), gaming and more ๐Ÿ“น๐ŸŽฎโœจ So subscribe if you're into that. Link in my bio! ๐Ÿ˜„ โ€ข I would appreciate if you liked and subscribed. Or share with anyone you know is trying to learn Spanish! ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿฝโ˜บ๏ธ #spanishteacher #contentcreator #sihbreeze #spanishlessons by @sih_breeze

Jamaicans are something else! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Enjoy my poem "Oiii, Driva!" ๐Ÿš• which was written in honour of the late Dr. Louise Bennett Coverley, affectionately called "Miss Lou" who championed Jamaican culture and language โค๏ธ . This poem was contributed to 100+ Voices for Miss Lou. It was edited by Prof. Opal Palmer Adisa" @opalpalmeradisawriter and can be purchased from UWI Press or via Amazon ๐Ÿ›’โœจ . Happy Independence Day, Jamaica! ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’› . #misslou #poetry #jamaica62 #sihbreeze by @sih_breeze
It is my pleasure to present my original poem "Charlie Bit My Finger" to commemorate Emancipation Day in JA ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒโ›“๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ (1 Aug 1838). . I wrote this based on a prompt for the poetry category of the Art for Liberation competition 2024 @wakeupja876 under the theme "Emancipate Yourself From Mental Slavery" #EYSFMS . Interestingly, writing this was a tough exercise which turned out to be helpful in my own pursuit of mental emancipation. If you listened all the way, thank you. I really hope it enriches you โœจ . The written text of my poem can be found on my profile where you'll also find in the caption a little more about my process. . To the competition organisers and evaluators, thank you for your consideration ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ #RitaMarleyFoundation #WAKEUPJAMAICA by @sih_breeze
