IN ALL THE 🌍 THERE IS ONLY ONE.

In Tallahassee, Florida, atop The HIGHEST of Seven Hillls, you’ll find none other than the Greatest Marching Band in the World. On June 1, 1946, Dr. William Patrick Foster founded “The Incomparable” Marching 100, a band program which would go on to set the standard for all other programs across the country. The 100 crafted band pageantry as we know it today, and forever changed the structure of Halftime Shows by implementing the playing of a Love Ballad while in the concert formation. This was done to distinguish The 100 from other bands, but also to display the excellence of black musicianship.

I first joined the marching band in 8th grade, making this final year my 10th season, and I am more grateful than ever for the many things I have learned on this journey. Thank you to Mr. Carlos Fowler at Wadsworth Magnet School for teaching me the importance of discipline and practice. Thank you to the Late Mrs. Natalie Brown at Chapel Hill MS @chms_pantherband for believing in me, always pushing me to elevate myself, and encouraging us to delve into the music. Thank you to Mr. James Seda and the Southwest Dekalb HS Marching Panthers @swdekalbbands for raising generations of leaders and strong-minded bandsmen. The quote, “The sign of a leader is consistency.”, has always stuck with me. And thank you to Dr. Chipman and the band staff at FAMU for providing the platform and tutelage to exercise all these things I’ve learned on the highest level.

The camaraderie, hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to excellence will never be forgotten.
