This is how the deweaving technique works
‘Deweaving’is the process we hand remove the warp yarns of Tue to create fringes or fabric manipulation. This process is delicate as it involves carefully pulling the threads out by hand. However, the need result is functional.
The pulled out yarns have been serving up in our new collection which we can’t wait to share with you all.

CULTURAL PRESERVATION
My fabric collection called THE ZEBRA NATION was inspired by the traditional black and white hand woven fabric of the Tiv people of Benue state. This was my take on reinventing the A’nger fabric as it is called in Tiv language, giving it a new and more exciting appeal. This is the main reason I enrolled in the ReRoll weaving classes @_rerollstationlab which has equipped me with a lot of ideas that has helped me on this project.
The project lead to my discovery of a stretchy woven fabric. I wove discarded elastic sequins and velvet fabrics in the weft and it ruched the fabric!!!

The swatches were inspired by the Tiv black and white fabric and the costume of Kwagh-hir (masquerade) which is sometimes made from ‘deweaved’ threads of plastic sacs.

Let’s take you on the journey of making the patchworks in our upcoming collection. The cut outs were inspired by embroidery. From the cutting to the stitching, so much skills, attention and patience are needed for a well crafted patch.

We: hand wove cultural fabrics, deweaved secondhand fabrics, hand embroidered, bead string, curved wood, used shells, had technical neck cut, dyed………all summering up to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of middle-belt to northern Nigerian.

For this collection AFRICA INTERSECTS THE ORIENT which was presented @kafart_ng , we merged the Asian and African world together, telling the stories of their growing relationship. Notable fabrics used in these collection were imagery silk, our wool handwoven fabrics, laces and nets.
