Today marks one year since my Mother passed away.

It’s difficult to describe the vast range of the feelings i’ve had over the past year, of losing someone so very close to me. So I thought it would be best to post an excerpt of what I wrote for my mother‘s funeral;

“Today, we gather not just to mourn, but to honour a mother whose quiet strength, fierce love, and unwavering presence shaped the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her.
My mother was a woman of deep feeling and rich taste. Her heart stirred by the soaring crescendos of opera and the joyful storytelling of musicals. Whether humming along to Rodgers and Hammerstein or losing herself to Plácido Domingo, I’d say music along with her many books, was her sanctuary, her celebration, and her way of connecting to something larger than herself.

She raised three children, all boys. Leaving her as the matriarch of the house.
Managing a house full of boys, is a feat that deserves its own standing ovation. Amidst the chaos of muddy shoes from Saturday sports, loud voices, and teenage tempers, she was mostly the calm in the storm. She drove us to sports practices, listened to our eager ramblings, picked us up from school, and endured the growing pains of adolescence with patience, humour, and more than a few deep sighs, or eye rolls. To which I, her third child, affectionately called “hambone”, whose mischief was both legendary, and lovingly tolerated.
She offered not just discipline, but understanding. She taught me that love is in the small things. From the joy of barracking for Richmond, the way she remembered everyone’s birthday, or anniversary. The way she made space for others, even when her own heart was heavy.

Her love was not loud, but it was constant.
It showed up in packed lunches, like honey sandwiches for her oldest son, late night chats while watching the F1s with her middle son, and the quiet way she waited in the car, rain or shine, just to make sure we all got home safe after school or sport practice.
She was the kind of mother who didn’t seek applause. Though she deserved it every day.” taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @silenthamish

This Christmas has felt different.

It’s been three months since I lost my mum, and stepping into the holidays without her has been a transition, and one which has felt hard.
She was the one who brought all the clichéd Christmas magic into our lives. The decorations, the gifts, the rituals, the warmth. She was the cheer in the room every year. As we’ve tried to navigate this first Christmas without her, I’ve been deeply grateful for the friends and family who wrapped around us when everything felt impossible. The people who checked in, who sat with us, who showed up in ways big, and small. Their kindness carried us through some of the darkest days, and it continues to mean more than they know.

Even with all the support, the quiet moments hit the hardest this year. The empty space where she should be is unmistakable. Yet within the colourful lights, the music, the traditions she loved, I can still feel her presence.
I miss her, and i’ll carry a piece of her with me wherever I go.

If the season feels quieter without that someone you love being in it. rRecognise that stillness. Hold space for what’s been lost, and what’s still ahead. taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @silenthamish

‘Bird Bud Returns’

If you recall one of my previous videos, you might recognize this feathered friend. He pops up every now and then, and I’m happy to report he’s still fond of perching on my foot.

He’s thriving, and loving life.

You see, the trick here is pretending the box was heavy. But it’s not heavy.
I’m acting like it is, when in fact it isn’t heavy. Not in the slightest. It’s light as a feather.

If you've ever looked up moving supplies on the Bunnings Warehouse website, then you might have seen a familiar face…well, sort of.

Last year, I worked with @ivanleephotography on a photo shoot for @wrapandmove
So if you’ve ever needed bags, or bubble wrap. Then you’ve seen my lower half!
