Dahlia #4 is making us wait! Four plants grown from one seed packet… and so far, three completely different colors! Now the last one is slowly revealing her colors. Is that pink, purple, or a little bit of both? I’m not rushing this one. The final reveal is coming! by @silgrowsflowers
Dahlia plant #3 Growing dahlias from seed is full of surprises! First yellow, then red… and now this gorgeous coral- peachy beauty! Three dahlia plants, three completely different colors, all from the same seed packet. One more plant to go! What color do you think is next? by @silgrowsflowers
Dahlia plant #2 seems to have opened overnight! Yellow first, now red. Same seed packet, totally different personalities! And she’s loaded with more buds ready to bloom. Two more plants to go… what colors will surprise me next? by @silgrowsflowers
Who needs a Halloween costume when your garden dresses up for you? No tricks, just treats from my Florida garden! A freshly picked bouquet of orange cosmos, just in time for Halloween. Happy Halloween from my garden to yours! by @silgrowsflowers
A cloudy day, but a little sunshine in my Florida garden! Remember that dahlia bud from a few days ago? She’s slowly opening, revealing this beautiful yellow! I grew these dahlias from seed in NJ but left before they had a chance to bloom. Now the surprises are unfolding in Florida! Three more plants are getting ready to bloom, and judging by their buds, I might have some very different colors coming! That’s the fun of growing dahlias from seed. You never know what you’ll get! Follow along for the next reveal! by @silgrowsflowers
One month of seedlings! The mixed tray, then the pansies, a month apart. Every variety is labeled, and they all grow at their own pace. Last year I rushed planting out and lost quite a few, so this year I’m waiting for stronger roots. Are you growing any of these from seed in Zone 9b. by @silgrowsflowers
He’s at it again! First the arbor, now garden obelisks! My hobby is Mark’s hobby, and his hobby lately is building things for my garden. Retirement is not just for relaxing! 😄 At this rate, I may never run out of places to grow flowers. I’m so lucky to have someone to do the heavy lifting while I dream up the flower beds . Who else has a go-to builder for their garden projects? by @silgrowsflowers
Sometimes protecting your younger plants means saying goodbye to a favorite. Would you believe this is ONE zinnia? She gave me months of gorgeous blooms, but now nearly every leaf is covered in black spots and white mildew, all the way up to the flowers. With spots starting to show up on the seedlings below, it was time to pull her. Into the trash, not the compost, so the spores don’t spread. Follow along as I replant and grow the next round! by @silgrowsflowers
Mystery dahlias, NJ to Florida edition.. These seedlings made the move south with me, and I have no idea what they’ll become. I’m hoping for a beautiful mix of colors, shapes, and sizes. Before investing in expensive tubers, I want to see how well seed-grown dahlias perform in my Florida garden. And if one turns out to be a keeper, I’ll want to save its tuber. So, Florida growers, I need your help: where do you store tubers in this hot, humid climate? My closet?! 😅 It seems complicated, and I’d love advice from this community. by @silgrowsflowers
When the neighborhood looks like this it motivates me to get my steps in! The pink muhly grass is changing color, and a windy day makes it even better. I can’t wait to see how it looks in another week💕 by @silgrowsflowers
Pick a favorite—I keep changing mine! A few of the zinnia colors I grew at the community garden and at home. Most are Benary’s Giants, with a few others mixed in. This year, I’m adding the Oklahoma series and trying a few more varieties. There’s always room for one more… right? Which color gets your vote? by @silgrowsflowers
As if I needed another garden project! I want these enormous palm berry clusters down before they start dropping, making a mess and Sonny starts to eat them! Let see if Mark can handle this 🌴 by @silgrowsflowers
