WAIT… YOUR DAILY COFFEE COULD BE AFFECTING YOUR SKIN & SCALP? 👀

Before you panic and throw your coffee away ☕️caffeine itself isn’t automatically “bad” for your hair or skin.

But high caffeine intake, especially from heavily sweetened energy drinks or multiple caffeinated drinks throughout the day, may indirectly contribute to issues for some people.

Things like poor sleep, dehydration, and increased stress can affect the skin and scalp and those factors can influence how your skin behaves, including irritation or breakouts.

And if you’re already dealing with a sensitive or irritated scalp, it’s worth paying attention to what you’re consuming in addition to what you’re putting on your hair.

So… who told us our hair came with a number and a letter? @paulmitchell @empirecharlotte @cpcityviewcosmetology @doobyshopschool

3B. 3C. 4A. 4B. 4C…

But here’s something a lot of people don’t realize: the hair typing system isn’t the only way and it’s not how we were taught to classify hair in cosmetology school.

In cosmetology, we learn the basic texture categories as straight, wavy, curly, and coily, while also looking at things like density, strand thickness, porosity, elasticity, and the hair’s overall condition.

And honestly? That matters WAY more when it comes to actually taking care of your hair.

Because two people can both call themselves “4A” and have completely different:
-densities
-strand thicknesses
-porosities
-curl patterns
-moisture needs
-styling needs

Your hair is more complex than a number + letter.

So instead of asking, “What’s your hair type?”
Maybe we should start asking:

“What does YOUR hair need?”

And before somebody comes for me this isn’t me saying the 3A–4C system doesn’t exist. It absolutely does. I’m saying it isn’t the only framework for understanding hair, and a label doesn’t tell the whole story.
