Vietnamese food is not cheap food.

Bún bò Huế takes hours. The broth alone.

She's from Lăng Cô — central Việt Nam. Cooking dishes most people in Austin have never heard of.

Bánh ít ram. Bánh lọc lá. Bánh nậm.

And she's just getting started.

🕯️ Tháng Tư Đen. Black April.

Half a century ago, Saigon fell. Millions of Vietnamese, Laotian, and Cambodian families lost everything overnight — and rebuilt in cities they'd never heard of.

I didn't live through it. I get fragments of it.

Growing up, nobody handed me a roadmap for being the child of refugees.

For a long time, we didn't have a platform to talk about any of this. So we built one.

He was 11 years old when his family told him: “You’re going to forget Việt Nam.”

He made a promise that day. He wouldn’t.

Anh spent over a decade in hospitality — late nights, 2am shifts, watching Vietnamese restaurants change their menu to survive.

He understood the fear. It still made him sad.

He built something different.

@damcoffeebar is a story about heritage. About not masking. About serving the Vietnamese community the way they actually remember it.

When an uncle walks in on a Saturday morning, orders black coffee, takes a sip, and nods. That’s everything.
