You know how you dread the end of a wonderfully-written book you’ve been reading? Well, I’ve had this book, personalised inscription intact, since about 10 months now. I’ve dreaded turning its last page even before I started reading it, such was the power that merely the cover and the promise of the story within had over me. Once I did pick it up, though, I finished it flat in a few hours. A beautifully written story of ‘The Last Courtesan’, by @manishgaekwad, took me everywhere with it - from the small-town existence of baby Rekha, to Bow Bazaar, to Congress House, and right into the world of nautch girls and their hearts. I could feel the grit and determination of the author’s mother, whose memoir it is. I saw her, as if before my own eyes, turn from someone brave and practical to someone fearful of taking away the only thing that had ever been precious to her - her child. I celebrated, I cried, I applauded. Thank you, Manish, for writing this celebratory memoir of your mother. I cannot even fathom how difficult it would’ve been. Special shout-out to my gorgeous friend, @inaaya12, who gifted me the book and the inscription. ❤️ by @silkywadhwa

In a world full of fake friendships u are amongst my real ones! From the crazy kaands we did together,to the insane fun times we have spent together From our childish fights some of which lasted years, To our growing old together! From gossiping ,to discussing therapy together, We have come a long way my love and in sha Allah to many more years of this madness with you! From planning and cancelling travels together May be someday we might manage to concretise our plan of getting onto crazy rides or go scuba diving together. I'm so glad to have u back in my life and I pledge to annoy you and be annoyed by you for the rest of our life together! These were the absolute best days of my life. Living together, we learnt so much about ourselves, each other, the world, and life. I’d been very hesitant to go to a girls’ college, and that too one run like a strict school, but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t choose any different. Love all you girls! #stbedes #stbedescollege #bedians #shimla #collegegirls #collegetimes #friends by @silkywadhwa
