put yr own feet on the ground / writers dont have to plan another existence forever to live schizophrenically / to be jane doe and medea in one body

I was first given Shange’s words when I was auditioning for colleges in 2014. Then I got to perform her work as a senior in college in 2018. Now, in 2026, I am finding ways to bring her work into my own. I found “advice” during a time of increasing frustration at the idea of being asked to compromise who I am as an artist. Something I am growing less and less interested in. Clearly something Ntozake was not willing to do.

It was an honor to bring this piece to @arsnovanyc and blend the worlds of music and theater, two worlds that @granitegardenmusic is always trying to mix.

I’m so happy to share that next week I will be one of several artists vendors at @bruisedpeachbrooklyn at @rub_ulad on November 1st. There will be new fabric painting experiments, my remaining zines, and a little more!
Come dressed up, eat some yummy food, and meet some super cool artists!

“Wasted” is fully and completely yours now.

This song represents a number of things. It’s one of the first ones I wrote where I felt like I was improving as a songwriter. It is also our first release that features @rodeo.ren’s newly held position as synth player, which he has been doing for 2 years (?) now. It’s the first recording of ours that was done completely remotely. Seamus, Ren, and I recorded our parts in our old apartment in Harlem. Jon was in Staten Island. Pete was somewhere on the road. Our honorary 6th member of GG, Rain, brought all of our sounds into one world through mixing. Through recommendation we found Will Bennett to give everything a boost of life in the master.

The video for Wasted also features some cool “firsts”. Seamus and I did this completely on our own in the woods of New Hampshire over the summer, with no shot list or pre visuals. Just an idea, a camcorder, a flashlight, a ladder, and a video synth Seamus had bought a while back. This is also the first time I styled myself in my own designs. And I do think this is Seamus’s best work as an editor. He shaped a beautiful story out of a vast array of shots and ideas we got over the course of 3 months.

All in all, I am extremely proud of every single person involved in the making of this piece. I hope it resonates with you, as weird as that might sound.

Please share any and all thoughts with us :)
