🌼 Little update: Plant box plants are nicely growing before the cold rolls around AND we have a new addition that’s been keeping Lyla (+ humans) busy!

Daisy joined our little fam exactly 2 weeks ago and she is almost 4 months old! NGL, we were nervous about puppyhood *flashback to not sleeping for an entire month with Lyla* BUT Daisy slept like a champ by night 4.

We’ve also been worried about Lyla because she hasn’t shown any interest with playing with other dogs in the last 2 years and this would also be a huge change for her. All my worries were swept aside when she play bowed to Daisy by day 4 🥹.

My journey of owning a variegated Alocasia Frydek in a collage of videos 🥲.

She started out doing fine and then it happened - all her leaves started yellowing and her roots started to die off. I’m not sure if I kept her too wet or too dry but she basically became a stump.

Threw the stump into a closed cup of soil with a layer of moss on top, because what’s there to lose?

And she did bounce back 🙏🏼✨, it definitely took time. We’re going on 5 large leaves and 2 small leaves from a corm that she grew 🥹. Never thought I’d see the day where I managed to grow an alocasia with more than 3 leaves at a time 🥳.

🏠 It’s been 3 summers in this apartment and I’m finally transforming this uninspiring corner of my patio ‼️ #ad

This corner has really been such an eyesore for me, it’s overlooking an unkept courtyard (city things 🤷🏻‍♀️).

It took me awhile but I finally found a tall, free standing planter box with trellis that fits perfectly in this corner.

Planted variegated and non-variegated Ivys, Hydrangea, Salvia, Passionflower Vine and more using @miraclegro Raised Bed & Garden Soil, which has quick release fertilizer to help kick start the plants in their new home! Praying everything grows lush by the end of the season and strong enough to withstand winter🤞🏻

Outdoor gardening is still pretty new to me and I’m still experimenting on what works with my space. I’ve lost a handful of plants earlier this summer to the heat so it’s easier to replace a plant when I plant them in individual planters vs directly into the planter box.

Anyways, I’m really happy with how this space looks like now and can’t wait to spend more time here, in my little planty nook 🌱! taken in Brooklyn, New York by @siloliage

This monstera used to be 4ft tall and I chopped her all the way down to her base awhile ago. Finally getting some decent fenestrations!

Gifted plant haul from @logeesplants , and yes, these are my first plant additions of 2024! I’ve personally bought various plants from Logees over the years and every single one of them came packaged with care (this included). 🎁

I picked out a few outdoor plants since my current outdoor plants have safely survived winter (minus one hydrangea bush 🙃), so it’s making me feel a little more confident to plant flowering varieties. Buds have also started forming on one of them!

As for the Ficus Shivereana, I wanted one for the longest time but held off until now! #sponsored

Lyla and my newest Thai Constellation leaf! She’s 23 inches long, 18 inches wide (the leaf, not Lyla lol). Swipe for pictures of how this plant first started including Lyla as an awkward puppy, and the last with hand to leaf size comparison.

I have not repotted her in 3 years which I probably should but she gets fertilized regularly. She’s also been with me for all 3 apartments that I’ve lived in since moving to NYC.

I’m so glad I did not buy a giant Thai Constellation 2 years ago when I was really tempted to otherwise I’d be like f*** where do I put this 😅 taken in Brooklyn, New York by @siloliage

🎂 Another year around the sun for me & nearing the end of Pisces season ☀️. Grateful for all the amazing planty places I visited last year from the tall cactuses in Aruba, greenhouse filled with tomatoes in Iceland, Bamboo Forests in Japan to the Hydrangeas in Azores in this smol reel 🙂. Can’t wait for more adventures in the next year and will make more of an effort to get them out of my phone’s album 🤣 by @siloliage

I left for five weeks so this is the first look of my plants that I left in this tub! They have been living inside this clear plastic tub the whole time I was away to keep the soil moist and to stay alive without a plant sitter lol. Also supplemented with grow lights on timers.

Added a little bowl of water just for insurance to keep it humid. Happy to report that only a handful of planties were unalive and the majority survived my stint away 🥳. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @siloliage

Hi, it’s been awhile 👋🏼. February was mentally rough with home sickness in full swing but finally found some time and energy to remove some plants from their tubs and back on to the living room plant shelf 🙂. I’m back after a month away! How did my living room plants fair while I was away?

If you haven’t seen my previous reel, I decided to try self-watering hacks for my entire trip and a friend kindly came over on my first week away to make sure my heaters were still on after a building power trip.

I am pleasantly surprised that my plants did so well with no care in 3 weeks! Only a few dead leaves but better than dead plants.

Some things I did that I think helped:
- Left my apartment in a cooler temperature.
- Shortened the time my grow lights were switched on during the day (5-6 hours).
- Group plants together.
- Overwater before leaving 😅
