Why is lighting so important? Well, each colour of paint has these “hues”. Hues? What is that??

Well… it’s what they call undertones in paint. Here we have two different shades of teal. Both look identical when wet but when they dry their hue/undertone shine through. One is teal blue and the other is teal green. Both have blue and green in it but each will have a deeper tone of each of their main colour.

For teal blue, its deeper tone is blue over green which is a cooler tone and for teal green, its deeper tone of green will be more apparent as it is of a warmer tone.

With different types of lighting, their hues will present themselves incorrectly. With warm incandescent lighting their deeper warm shades will appear (green) and cool white lighting their cooler shades will appear(blue).

Does this make sense? Were you able to see the difference? So glad I did the test again, as I actually thought they were the same!!

Doesn’t she look all grown up.. right!!

As you become empty nesters, one room at a time… you gotta dress up your furniture for a guest room! It is made of solid pine.. it’s light but much heavier with the drawers.

My process began by stripping the top and drawers and sanding it down (used carbide scraper as well). The bottom portion I scuffed sanded and applied primer. Dowel top drawers with square and round dowels.

After creating the doweled drawers, it needed to have that linen wash look so I custom mixed a washed pine look with burnt umber, white and yellow acrylic paint with water.

On the top and drawers, I used BM Swiss coffee wash then glazed it with a lightened umber. To make this .. I added yellow to the burnt umber to lighten it. For the remainder, I painted it with a lightened BM smokey taupe paint (added white primer) - giving it a classy two-tone grown up feeling!

This was the first time using Minwax Triple Coat Polyurethane top coat. It is a one coat process. BUT I diluted it with 10% water so that it spread easier with a sponge. l applied 3 thin coats. Final touches , I spray painted wood handles with metallic champagne gold and used Evervive salva form the drawers.

I love the look and it is so fitting in my beachy boho guestroom! I think it will last another 30+ years or until I want to change it again😜

I am so glad on how it turned out. Thank you to those who chose dowels as I was leaning towards raised stencil .. for a much easier process. Glad I didn’t settle!! This fits so much better with my beachy boho theme guest room!

When dowels were selected, I didn’t want to do the standard dowels side by side. I wanted to use the dowels (square/round) I had in inventory. So I started searching to see if anyone had done a dresser with two types of dowels. Thankfully, I already follow her as I do love many of her pieces.. picture 4. They are neutral in colour and boho style that I like. So thank you so much for the INSPO @simplybeautifulbyangela . If you are not following her yet.. check her out! You won’t be disappointed!!

Do I need to say more! I guess my paint rolling skills was a little off 🤪 thanks Victoria @houseofrestorations for the idea to post!

No top coat on the tape.. instead primer! Brush down!! 👍👍 worked great as you can see.. other than my paint roller went a lil over the edge🤷🏻‍♀️😝😆🤦🏻‍♀️

So aren’t dowels fun! You can be very creative with the design. This time I didn’t settle on the random dowel pole wrap. I decided to use what I had in inventory which were 5/16” round dowels and 3/4”x1/4” slats.

Why did I not Brad nail all of them? Well, first it was splitting the round dowels and I could not align it in the centre.. so 🤔🤔🤔 with the heavy duty construction glue, I didn’t feel the need to nail it down. As you can see, I sanded it and wire brushed them and they did not move👍👍

Why did I colour prime?? Well, first was to hide the glue in the crevices under the dowels and to create a washed pine look! As the dowels were both different colours!! It helped make it all have a consistent colour when the stain was applied.

Now that I got the dark wash/stain on it… I think they look marvellous !! That’ll be the next and reveal reel!!

Well.. it shows you can do almost anything if you put your mind to it! I very much don’t like to waste especially when you can be creative!

Especially when your idea of angle cutting doesn’t turn out the way you thought 🤦🏻‍♀️. However, in the end, it all worked out!! I had pieces for both of them!!

Such an easy project—so affordable, so lightweight! I’m really glad I took the chance, because it turned out *so much better* than I ever expected. With my coastal boho retreat guestroom in mind, the tablecloth and pleats worked beautifully. And the best part, it was light enough that I didn’t need extra bolts to hang it.

Originally, I was going for a smoother, sectioned look, but since it’s foam, staples just don’t hold the same. When I tried stapling the back, I had to use popsicle sticks so it could grip and keep everything in place—and surprisingly, it worked! But I still ended up switching plans, and honestly, the pleats were the better choice all along.

Besides the tablecloth wasn’t long enough for the style I first imagined, but the pleats let me use the extra overhang in the perfect way. 👏👏

I also considered using regular picture hooks, but the belt idea came to me at the last moment—and I’m so glad I went with it. It matches the exact look and vibe I was hoping for.

It’s when your subconscious is working with you on the project and sharing ideas that help you make it the best way possible.

The last of the headboards completed! The room is not complete but I was excited to show this last one.

It went from the wooden pieces of lateral lines and sunburst herringbone design to a soft, tailored fabric folded in pleats. This was the perfect way to finish the series. It’s light, minimal, and gives the space that exact relaxed, seaside retreat vibe I was chasing.

It kinda reminds you of ripples in the sand, right!

So of the 3… which is your favourite??

The 2nd of 3 headboards completed! This one was for our master bedroom!

I have always been drawn to herringbone design and with the master bedroom being in a coastal theme, why not do it here with a sunburst front.

So even if it’s cloudy outside… I believe the sun always will shine indoors!

The panel I used was made of pine. I created a border of 2.5” wide to allow me to easily work it into that space. I used the small popsicle sticks and cut them in 1.5” lengths x2 so it took approximately 525 sticks! I taped them in 25 packs to cut them as I could not imagine cutting 525 individually!! Was a lot easier that way.

To cut the inside edge straight, I used a metal ruler and x-acto blade and for the exterior, I used my jigsaw.

Filled the gaps with wood filler then washed off excess, top coated with polyurethane in satin finish. The middle portion, I conditioned the wood with water and poly, and then used my chocolate glaze to create a faux oak pattern.

I wanted a design on the front and that’s why I created the starburst design. Poly’d the tape so I can have clean lines after tan washing it with BM natural Linen. I put it on a bit heavier than a wash as I wanted the wood grain sunburst to pop! I think I succeeded.

What I also did.. was repaint my wall art in BM Swiss Coffee as I didn’t want it competing with the sunburst! It worked out amazingly!
