I am excited and grateful to share that Orbis has offered me a book contract for my manuscript about Latine Christian Zionism in the US.
The book will come out around this time next year.

With all that is happening in this world, it feels somewhat incongruent to share this, but my hope is that this work is never separate from the lived realities we are experiencing and bearing witness to.

My prayer is that it is one small contribution to educating and inviting Latine and other Christians to abandon the violence and harm Christian Zionism causes. by @silvaluchando

If you get your news from *any* mainstream outlet in the US, they have most certainly failed you on Palestine . Today, I received and began reading this incredible book by @assalrad_
Pay attention to how the violence of empire - genocide- starts with these manufactured headlines which always and only humanize Israel and Israelis and dehumanize P4lestinians. An essential read. by @silvaluchando

Meet one of our speakers at Church at the Crossroads — Atlanta 2026.

Rev. Dr. Cristal Silva-McCormick is a mother of five, ordained minister, and Christian educator committed to the gospel and the church’s mission.

She serves as Assistant Professor of Evangelism and Missions and Director of Latine Studies at Austin Seminary, where she helps equip Christian ministers for faithful witness across cultures and communities.

Her teaching and ministry are rooted in a commitment to the global church and helping Christians wrestle faithfully with complex questions facing the church today. She is the author of the forthcoming book about Christian Zionism in Latine Christian communities.

Born and raised on the border in El Paso,Texas, her identity as a scholar, minister, has been shaped by the stories of grandmother and family who immigrated from Mexico.

She brings to Atlanta a voice rooted in the borderlands, in the Latine church, and in the conviction that empire must never be allowed to become our gospel.

‘Our lives are stitched together with the lives of people we’ve never met.’

Ben Norquist, BIPJ’s Director of Communications, went to El Paso to learn about the Southern border. What he found made him rethink what a border even is.

‘In my North American context, we like to imagine ourselves as independent creatures, making our own journeys through the world. Our culture reinforces this constantly. We have our own lawns to mow!’

But El Paso kept disrupting that story.

Ancient trails. Families split across a river. Monarchs crossing the border like it doesn’t exist.

‘And maybe that’s why I thought about Palestine from El Paso. In both places, I’ve been confronted with the same temptation: to imagine that what happens over there is somehow separate from my life right here.’

‘When I got home I mowed my lawn. But where my world puts a lot of stock in lines that divide and the power of distance, the lines that connect me to others, even those I don’t know personally, are more important. Jesus sees us as neighbors and responsible to each other. We should too.’

Final Day of Austin Seminary’s Borderland Immersion in El Paso!

While the final day of the Borderland Immersion brought our time to a close, it continued to open additional doors of conversation and connection even beyond the program. The day began with a grounded discussion and reflection on the impact of xenophobic rhetoric with Dr. Sarah De Los Santos Upton on the grounds of the El Paso County Healing Gardens, which were created to honor the 23 lives lost in the 2019 El Paso Walmart shooting.

Following this session, we headed back to the Abara campus for sessions on Immigration 101 & current immigration policy, the migratory dynamics of Ciudad Juárez, a reflection circle on the theology of migration, and a session with @tsuruforsolidarity on the history of Japanese internment during World War II and modern day connections to detention centers.

Apart from the educational sessions, our group was also able to head near downtown El Paso and experience “365 Days of Camp East Montana,” a community art and advocacy exhibit marking one year since the opening of the mass immigrant detention encampment at Fort Bliss in El Paso, and providing sobering insights into the conditions facing those detained in these facilities.

The day and program came to a close with a dinner and debrief with Abara and the Tres Rios Border Foundation at the Abara House at the Hacienda, where participants offered heartfelt reflections on the experience, as well as takeaways and hopes for the work this experience calls for them.

We extend our profound gratitude to our friends at Abara and the Tres Rios Border Foundation for their hospitality, to all of our friends who joined us for the journey and in making this as transformative of an experience as it could have been, and to the Wabash Center in making this all possible.

While the program for this week comes to a close, the journey and work for both our participants and for Austin Seminary at the borderlands is just beginning. @forgotten_christians Israeli settlers have carried out repeated attacks against Palestinians, including the Christian village of Taybeh. Residents have reported arson, property damage, attacks on homes and vehicles, and harassment around Christian sites, raising growing concerns over the safety of Taybeh, the last entirely Christian village in the West Bank.
