The result can be rising CO₂, drowsiness, and respiratory acidosis.
In acute COPD exacerbations, liberal high-flow oxygen (aka 99% on oxygen) more than doubled mortality compared with titrating to 88–92%.

I have to thank all the past versions of me for getting me to where I am today.

PA school is still one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and there were so many times when the only option felt like “just keep going.”

I think the lesson I’m learning now is knowing when to take a break.

Because lately, the burnout warning lights have been LIT 🔥

This year I told myself I wanted to be more curious. Turns out there are many things I was totally unaware of. The best way to start learning is to start asking questions.

At the AAPA Leadership & Advocacy Summit I asked PAs one question:

Why should PAs care about advocacy?

By hearing their ‘whys’ help me shape my ‘why’. And I wanted to share with you in case it helps you too.

Advocacy can feel far removed from taking care of patients. But legislation affects what we’re allowed to do, where we can practice, and ultimately, how patients access care.

You really don’t have to be a policy expert.
You do have to stay curious and show up. by @silvana.pac

For those interested the 2 main issues discussed during @aapaorg Leadership & Advocacy Summit 2026:

🎓 Student loans: A new law created much lower federal loan limits for graduate education. PA programs were initially left out of the higher “professional” category, which would have limited PA students to just $20,500 a year in federal loans.

AAPA and PAEA challenged that decision in court and, for now, PA programs are being treated as professional programs, with a $50,000 annual limit.

The issue isn’t completely settled yet.

🩺 Federal workers’ comp: Right now, federal employees who get hurt at work can’t always use a PA for their workers’ comp care. The proposed change would allow PAs to provide that care, just like they already do for other patients.
