Listened to poetry, played a few songs and then got my camera out to capture the gorgeous closing sets by @speedwaystartheband and @nevecariad . Thank you so much to @maddywaslurking for inviting me to this very special show in memory of your friend Evanne and to raise money for @brain_tumour_research . ✨❤️🙏

It was a beautiful event with lovely people. From a photography point of view, the uncluttered space with dramatic side lighting from a lamp and great silhouettes was a bit of a playground for me too! Enjoyed playing with layers… as you can probably tell! 😁

Honoured to be asked to play this fundraiser show tomorrow, organised by @maddywaslurking in memory of her friend Evanne.

I’m a little nervous cause I’m playing unplugged which I never really do as my guitar and voice are so quiet but I’m going to give it a go for this! Line up looks lovely - really excited to see @nevecariad again as she’s amazing!! by @silverreserve

Another year older. Been a great summer of family time, music and photography. Thanks to @amymayellis for my card and for bewitching us once again at @shadow_brewing last night. What a special one! Swipe for a slightly ropey version of Amy’s incredible song ‘Rain from the East’ that I recorded a few years back - didn’t really breathe in the right places… just maybe listen to the original cause it’s a masterpiece! *And cause Insta has cut it into a tiny clip* 😩* Got a lovely low-key acoustic fundraising show next Sunday in Leeds alongside the very wonderful @nevecariadwrk which will be dead nice even though I hardly ever play acoustic shows cause I’m super quiet! by @silverreserve

🎉🙌🏻❤️ Thank you Abbey Road Music Photography Awards! Delighted that my image of @makkmcevoy has been shortlisted in the ‘Portraits’ category. 🤯👌🎉❤️ @abbeyroadmpa @abbeyroadstudios

I’ve not entered a photography competition before so might retire now with a 100% shortlist success rate! 😄🎉 Genuinely surprised and delighted - thank you @abbeyroadmpa 🙌🏻 To have reached the last fifteen to twenty images from thousands of submissions across the world feels staggering for a photographer at such an early stage in their career. I hope this helps me continue to grow and do this thing I love. ❤️

Thanks also to @jglcreate for suggesting I enter and reminding me on closing day….and to my daughter for only calling me a ‘stupid idiot’ when I burst into her room at five minutes to midnight, waking her up, turning on lights and knocking things over to retrieve my computer charger in a panic! Kept my computer alive long enough to submit the entry with seconds to spare like a scene from a very low-budget Mission Impossible. 👌

Been playing this one for years now. Still love it.

Have so many songs I find it hard to plan sets. Occasionally I get to do big epic 90 minute sets and I love that. Hopefully get some more shows booked in this autumn and winter as it’s been a good little run over the past few weeks and already missing it.

Missing my tour buddy @mckinneygordon today. Mad whirlwind few days and all over in a flash but really, really special experience.

I have only one more live show booked for the rest of this year now. Kind of slept on that one, focusing on the tour. Doh! Get in touch if there’s something you’d like me to play or anywhere you’d recommend! Gordon and I were talking last week about maybe trying some house shows if we get to tour again - if anyone would like to host then get in touch and we can start planning! by @silverreserve

Intimate shows like this one at @theportlypig.ripon are so special. No distractions, just the audience and performer really sharing an experience together. @cafe9live has that magic and I think the shows @wethreethingssing and I host at @shadow_brewing have it too. It’s another reason why @graystonunity always feels so special too. Don’t get me wrong - I enjoy playing larger venues too but there’s just something about being in a room *with* the audience that I truly love and this photo captures it so well. There’s no hiding for anyone really in the very best way.
@mckinneygordon and I absolutely loved @thepeerhat the other week for @scribblingtown - another very, very special space.

So please do share…. Where are the other music nights like this? I want to keep playing and feel there must be other nights that run like local best kept secrets all over the place… in tiny micro breweries, cafes, basement rooms….

SOLD OUT! The last time I played Ripon was the first time I played Ripon and this second time will be the next time I’ve played Ripon and hopefully not the last time. It’s already sold out so I can make that sentence as confusing as I like really as you’re either already coming or you can’t! Thanks to @tom_sands_guitars for asking and to the @theportlypig.ripon for hosting the night. @jessharwood1 will be there too so I’m looking forward to seeing her set also. Tour with Gordon is over! What a privilege and pleasure to have spent these last few days on the road with this guy. ❤️

Tour life has a way of stretching time somehow and the last week or so feels like a long adventure full of unpredictable emotions and events. Not everything went to plan and yet I’m just left with a feeling that it was somehow perfect too. We found ourselves with an unexpected gap in our schedule and ventured to the coast, introduced Gordon to my folks, swam in the sea, laughed and talked for hours, played songs and generally recharged. We ended in Hull with an audience of mostly family and friends and it was just the loveliest thing. So many incredible moments and I have zero regrets about any of it. Some shows were busy, others weren’t. It somehow didn’t matter - the company, the connection with others, the performances…and a deepening of a friendship… these are what I’m left with. Music is about connection and some of these shows were some of the most special I’ve ever played in my life. We played well and I’m confident anyone who came out enjoyed the shows - every show was attentive which makes all the difference so I’m very grateful to everyone who showed up or helped us run them. It’s been a wonderful thing.

The Silver Reserve is the musical project of British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Sturgess. Based in Northern England, he crafts intimate, folk-infused psychedelic music built on classical guitar, layered loops, and reflective lyricism.

Manchester! Such a fun show last night. Lovely busy room. Having a Pulitzer Prize Winner as the opening act, we knew we’d be in for a treat lyrically with David Hanners and he delivered a devastating set to open the night - awesome songwriter. That kept us on our toes and I think we both played about as well as we can! The audience last night were exceptional - they listened so intently that you could hear little reactions to certain lines or musical parts and it just felt very, very special to share our music in a room like that. The fact that the night ended with a late-night street party jam made the whole thing even better! Thanks to Jon for sorting the show and Matthew for making it sound so good and to everyone who came out. Met so many lovely people last night and was really amused by the doorman who asked us if we play hardcore. 😄

Now, if you missed out @thepeerhat …. We can now tell you that there’s a little mini version of the show happening tonight as David, Gordon and I are playing at the legendary @whiskeyjarnq for @joebagpipes ‘s night this evening.

Two shows left….

Sheffield tomorrow at @samuel_worth_chapel - a stunningly beautiful venue… tickets have been slow on this one but hopefully there’s a bunch of you that are planning on paying on the door 🙏🙏🙏 We know it’s in a cemetery but we don’t want the show to be 💀

Then we finish up with the final show in Hull at @the_adelphi_club - only my second ever headline show there so I hope you’ll support us! If the last few shows have proven anything, it is that the musicians only take you part of the way to making a great show - a great audience does the rest. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 by @silverreserve
