"One must never forget that the bourgeoisie is a class that feels guilty for existing."

Claude Chabrol

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Claude Chabrol passed away from natural causes at the age of 80 🕊️

He criticized the bourgeoisie with a mixture of fascination and repulsion. Although he acknowledged coming from that background himself, he denounced its fundamental flaws through his work:

Hypocrisy and Pretense:
He viewed the bourgeoisie as a class that masks its corruption—such as crime, infidelity, and greed—behind a veneer of respectability, material comfort, and good manners.

Dehumanization:
He illustrated how class distinctions and status-seeking can corrupt human relationships, turning life into a theater of power dynamics and possession.

Lack of Meaning:
Chabrol often suggested that this class, free from material survival struggles, becomes trapped in an existential void, filling it with rigid rituals, power-seeking, or repressed se..al desires.

His approach, often compared to that of an entomologist, involved "dissecting" this social class to expose the cruelty beneath the surface.

He famously remarked with characteristic humor: "I hate the bourgeoisie, but I am one." by @silverscreenlady

Pure nostalgia! 😍 Look at what I just pulled off my shelves: the "Limited Edition" VHS box sets of the cult series that shaped my childhood and an entire generation in the late 90s and early 2000s. The grain of the tape, the sound of the VCR... what an era! ✨

Here is a quick look at these gems:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 1 (The Complete Box Set)
VHS Release: ~1998 (Limited Edition / 20th Century Fox)

The Pitch: The first 12 episodes of the legendary Slayer in Sunnydale. It includes the unforgettable two-part pilot Welcome to Sunnydale, as well as iconic episodes like Teacher's Pet and Prophecy Girl. This is where it all began for the Scooby Gang! 🩸⚔️

Angel - Season 1 (Parts 1 & 2)
VHS Release: ~2001 (Limited Edition / 20th Century Fox)

The Pitch: The dark spin-off of Buffy divided into two beautiful box sets of 3 tapes each. The first covers episodes 1 to 11 (moving to LA, Cordelia, Doyle) and the second covers episodes 12 to 22 (the arrival of Wesley, the schemes of Wolfram & Hart). Such a darker and more mature vibe! 🌆🦇

The Pretender - Season 1 (Episodes 1 to 22)
VHS Release: ~1999 (Limited Edition / Polygram Video)

The Pitch: Divided into two volumes with a very retro "computer tech" look typical of its time. We follow Jarod, a genius who escaped from "The Centre" capable of blending into any identity (pilot, doctor, firefighter...) to help the innocent while evading Miss Parker. A captivating show! 🦎💻

The X-Files - Season 1 (The Complete Box Set)
VHS Release: ~1997/1998 (Limited Edition / 20th Century Fox)

The Pitch: The ultimate collector's box set, with black and white spines that form the iconic visual of Mulder and Scully. Tape 1 opens with the legendary pilot episode Pilot, followed by Deep Throat and Squeeze (introducing the terrifying Tooms). The truth is out there... 👽🛸

What a joy to see these collector's items again. What was your favorite show back then? 📺👇

Pure 90s nostalgia! 🚲☀️ Who else remembers watching Pacific Blue after school?

⭕ Pacific Blue - Volume 1.3 ⭕

🚴🏻‍♂️Ties That Bind

🚴🏻‍♂️Out-of-State Cop

🚴🏻‍♂️Moving Target

Airing from 1996 to 2000, Pacific Blue is an American action-drama series following an elite bicycle patrol unit of the Santa Monica Police Department in California. Often dubbed "Baywatch on bikes", the team patrols the sunny beaches and boardwalks on high-end mountain bikes to protect the community, maintain order, and resolve local incidents while performing high-energy bike stunts. The show balances lighthearted police procedural action with the personal and romantic lives of its officers.

This iconic series originally aired in the US from 1996 to 2000 and officially hit French screens on TF1 in November 1997. A true core memory for 90s kids! 🌴🕶️

📼 Ein wüster Haufen – A WWII action classic known in English as The Devil's Brigade (1968), starring William Holden and Cliff Robertson! 🪖

📼 Big Deal – A hilarious 1985 Italian comedy release featuring Marcello Mastroianni and Vittorio Gassman about a group of unlucky thieves! 🎬

Which one would you watch first? 👇✨
