Its amazing the difference in perspective drones give us 🚁

This humpback whale was lunge feeding on some bait fish earlier this year off the coast of Baja California, Mexico, something that I’ve always wanted to film.

From the boat we could only see the moment it erupted from the water - it was a guessing game trying to predict where it would come up. But with the drone, I could see the whites on its fins and judge where and when it would shoot out from the water - allowing me to capture these moments.

Have you ever seen inside the mouth of a whale?

This curious grey whale was showing off a behaviour that I hadn’t seen before until this season. Scratching its mouth on the bottom of our boat, it opened its mouth wide open, giving us a great look at that beautiful baleen.

It must have had a barnacle on its lip or something because it did this for almost 30 minutes! This gave me the chance to capture this unique footage, giving us a glimpse of what it’s like being inside the mouth of a whale!

Definitely one of the coolest things over ever filmed 🐋

For as long as I can remember, there has been one animal at the very top of my wildlife bucket list.

The blue whale.

The largest known animal to have ever lived on this planet.

Earlier this year, after years of hoping, planning, and imagining what this moment might feel like, l finally saw one for the first time.

Nothing prepares you for it.

It was the fulfilment of a dream I’d carried with me for years, and I have a feeling I’ll remember that first exhale for the rest of my life.

Say cheese 😁

The Grey Whales of Mexico never fail to take my breath away. This individual spent half an hour scratching his lip on the bottom of our boat, giving us all a great look at his baleen.

Grey Whales have up to 360 baleen plates, the coarsest of any whale species, which allows them to filter-feed on small amphipods from the seafloor.

Its not often that you get this close a look at the mouth of one of the largest animals in the world 🐋

Moments of connection 🐋

Some images from one of the most special encounters that I’ve had yet with Grey Whales in Mexico. We spent hours with this one calf on a beautiful morning a few weeks ago. It kept coming back to our boat and interacting with us whilst - even opening its mouth! (slide 4)

The most unique of wildlife behaviours which can only be observed in specific lagoons in Mexico ✨

6 weeks in one of the wildest places on Earth 🐋

I can’t believe how fast my time in Baja California has passed. I’ve been coming down to this part of Mexico for the past 5 years, and for good reason - it’s absolutely breathtaking.

From intimate moments with Grey Whales to encountering the largest known animal in the world, everyday holds anew surprise here.

A huge thank you to my friend @silversharkadventures for inviting me out again this year for more adventures. And to @sweet_salt_t & @govasvadhir for epic times on the water 🌊

Images like this are what I used to dream of capturing, when I first started wildlife photography 📸 we had this among encounter with a humpback whale a couple of days ago, in almost the exact location that I photographed my first breaching whale in 2022.

It’s amazing to look back at the past 4 years and see how much I’ve learned and grown when it comes to photography. Check out slide 6 for a comparison of the shot I took back then.

It’s hard to into words the feeling that encounters like this give you 🐋

The last couple of days have been full of unforgettable encounters with this grey whale calf. So playful and full of energy, we spent hours with it as it played around our boat, sticking its head out and looking at us, opening its mouth wide for us to see all its baleen, and even nudging our boat a few times.

It is difficult for science to explain these behaviours. I take it as the curiosity and playfulness of youth, and the trust that the mother whale has in us. Truly special moments 💙
