The recent Achilles rip was the 16th surgery of my life. The 18th, if you also count the 2 toe surgeries last summer. All the experience helps to get on the scooter quicker, crutches in the surfboard rack, 100% confident to not put my injured leg on the ground while driving. I knew what to expect, what to do. But it doesnt make it easier on the soul when you´ve been through it so many times already. (Actually it might even make it worse when there´s not much new to discover or learn along the way.) But in the end everything passes, also the 16th (18th?) surgery rehab of your life 😅

With the first sucessful Munich surf attempt Id say the hardest months are over. One week before (on my bday) I still couldnt fully hold the pressure of the surfboard. So I told @snowboard_nico he´s gotta be quick if he wants to take a photo - I won´t last long on the wave - but then it worked and I was so so stoked ☺️ Things are starting to come back around!

I´m so glad to start to exit rehab land. Soon enough walking smoothly&symmetrically will be possible, and eventually even hiking and climbing in the mountains or snowboarding. Everything at its time. 💥 Life is full of surprises. Every moment contains risks and opportunities, good luck and bad luck. Got the latter again and ruptured my achilles last weekend at Kaunertal. It was just a baby jump cab3 to the toe edge, I felt it snap, instantly said “I just ruptured my achilles” and that’s really what it was. Thank you @klaus.butnocigar for piggy backing me down the mtn , thanks to the entire crew for helping me get my shit together, and thanks to my car for being automatic so I somehow could drive home the 3,5hours - while still wearing my snowboard boot on the injured side. It was impossible to take the boot off on the mtn. Too gnarly. ( Imagine how you sometimes have to pull on a boot to get it off, but then your tendon is not holding the foot anymore 💀) At home I cut the boa and the boot to pieces and finally managed to take it off.

I’ve ruptured my other side achilles tendon 2 months before the Sochi Olympics (2014) , so I know what to expect during the next months. It sucks, but to appreciate the good in the bad - at least there isn’t as much uncertainty in this kind of injury as there is in a months long medically unresponsive severe insomnia or several funky toe nail surgeries where noone really knows what happens next. This time I got 4-6 weeks on crutches, 8 weeks in a walking boot, hopefully only half a summer to miss out on and another symmetrical scar to equal out the right with the left side ankle.

There’s also some positive photos in the end of the swiper , because there’s always good in the bad. It was a sweet weekend until the injury. Gotta see the good to make it through the bad! ❤️

😴 I can sleep again!!! After months of the worst time in my life (most savage insomnia) sleep is finally back. First with pills, but I’m weening off them now, and still sleep. So, so grateful. This is a slightly random swiper since coming back alive after the sleep lab (last photo, all wired up, that’s how you need to sleep at the sleep lab. I really wonder who can actually sleep good like that?) God, I am so glad to sleep and live again. Those months were so hard. ☠️ by @silviamittermul
