Version 2 of my wearable LED hex panels! This time I happened to work improvements from the last one in the days leading up to SOAK 2026, and didn't actually have time to put them together before I left for the event. So I had to create a field workshop to assemble the units! Definitely one of the more unique locations I've put anything together before. Apparently I can effectively run my mobile soldering setup off a Makita battery and a power inverter 😁.

Like last time, I printed a bunch of housing units for the LEDs and clamped them with a backing unit that had embedded magnets. The extra units made it too heavy for the magnets I used this time and the wearable did not least my test night 😅. Will need to rethink the mounting function.

Overall, still looking great and learned a fair amount about what I need to do to improve the next version! Stay tuned for V3! by @simchukalex

Version 1 of my wearable LED panels has officially been tested in the wild. Many revisions to be made, but so far almost all of my expectations have been met with this one. It's crazy how clean the units look for single prints that I don't need any post-processing. I'll be rethinking the individual LED units though, soldering just this many pieces took a ridiculous amount of time. I already have ideas for the next iterations, hope to have more columns on me in the next one.

Thank you to @camp_craefts for telling me about the PixelBlaze controller, was able to focus on the build and put off the coding for the sequences for this (and probably a few more) iteration. by @simchukalex

It's been a while since I've done a fun project for myself, but when I found this model on Makerworld I really really wanted to do something with it 😛.

Started with a single print for myself, then I wanted to make a variant that was small and could be strung up for necklaces. Unfortunately, the arms were too weak (see earlier iterations). I ended up making them a bit bigger and added some support beams at two point and now the pass the fall test from standing height 😁. Large batch print is now underway, currently thinking about what beads should go with it.

Kumoricon 2025 was a blast! Once again I ran into lots of amazing cosplays, old favorites and new. Impossible to capture all of them, but here are a few.

My prototype rave robotnik jacket held up kind of ok, my janky wiring did break a couple of times but the cosplay repair center had a soldering kit and I was able to make repairs onsite. Saturday rave was awesome and nothing broke despite my hopping so that ruled! Robotnik ended up ditching the chaos emerald for the ring of power in the end (it spoke to him 😛).

Once again I walk away with more inspiration and ideas for new upgrades, hopefully will have new stuff to share soon!

One ring to rule them all...

Haven't posted in a while, and want to get more of my projects out there. This is the latest and I'm super happy with how it came out (and how much of the glow effect is captured on camera!).

The model comes from MakerWorld (link below), I purchased a basic white LED strip to embed and printed a chain to make it wearable. Everything held up well after an evening out 😁.

Experimenting with the color changing settings of my X1C to produce 2D images flush with the printed objects surface. Pretty happy with the results, even with a standard 0.4mm nozzle.

Camp KQ 2024 just finished, and I wanted to make a quick post about the trophies I made for the event. This was my first official project with edge-lit acrylics, and despite a few setbacks and minor defects with some of these, overall it was a good experience. Learned a fair bit about the process, came up with new ways to batch jobs like these in the future, and were well received by the awesome KQ community they were made for. Alternate style for edge-lits. I kinda like this look better.

The "swollen" edge was from a moment where the acrylic got dislodged but then righted itself to finish the tool path 😅. Make sure your stock is secured! by @simchukalex
