Some of these sound like “healthy hair habits” but they could actually be doing more harm than good! Are you guilty of any?

💧 1. Only washing your hair with cold water
Cold water can make your hair feel smooth and shiny, but you don’t need to suffer through an icy shower. Lukewarm water is perfectly fine for cleansing your scalp and removing oil, sweat and product buildup without using excessive heat.

💧 2. Air drying your hair every single time
Air drying sounds like the healthiest option, but hair is more vulnerable when wet. Leaving it wet for hours can mean prolonged swelling of the hair fibre and more opportunity for friction and breakage. If your hair takes forever to dry, gently remove excess water and blow dry on a low/medium heat setting from a distance.

💧 3. Scrubbing shampoo through your ends
Your scalp is where most of the oil and buildup accumulates, so concentrate your shampoo there. When you rinse, the shampoo will travel through your lengths. There’s usually no need to aggressively scrub already dry ends.

💧 4. Assuming a wide tooth comb is always the gentlest option
The tool matters, but technique matters even more. Whether you use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush, start at the ends and slowly work upwards rather than pulling through knots from the roots.

💧 5. “Training” your scalp to need fewer washes
Stretching your wash days doesn’t actually teach your sebaceous glands to stop producing oil. If your scalp is oily, sweaty or has significant product/dry shampoo buildup, wash it. Your ideal frequency depends on your scalp, hair type and lifestyle, there’s no universal 2-3x a week rule.

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp 🤍

My 5 non negotiables when it comes to hair growth, these are the things that helped me grow healthier, longer hair 🤎✨

Hair growth isn’t just about one miracle product, it’s about consistency! Creating the right environment for healthy hair and reducing breakage so you can actually retain length.

My current non negotiable hair routine:
✨ Hair oiling with cold pressed virgin coconut oil
✨ Double cleansing my scalp in the shower
✨ Using a lightweight daily hair oil on mid lengths to ends
✨ Detangling with a gentle hair brush
✨ Prioritising protein intake

Remember: healthy hair starts at the scalp, but keeping your lengths healthy is just as important.

🧴Products I use:
💛 Hair oils
Cold pressed virgin coconut oil
@olaplexau No.7 bonding oil
💛 Hair Brush
@tangleteezeraustralia ultimate styler brush
💛Protein Powder
@thecollagen.co glow shake

What hair topic should I cover next? 👇

Hi, I’m Sim 🤍 I’m a registered aesthetic nurse and I’m obsessed with skin!

I started this page to share what I actually use, what’s worth your money, and what isn’t. Simplifying the world of skincare and keeping it real from someone who works with skin every day and has suffered with problematic skin.

Fair warning, I’m not going to post a 10 step skincare routine.

Every skincare wardrobe needs a good barrier cream 🤍

As a nurse with oily, acne prone skin, Avene Cicalfate+ is one of my go tos when my skin feels irritated or overworked.

🧴 Copper & zinc sulfates – help maintain a skin environment less favourable to bacterial growth.

🤍 C+-Restore (postbiotic ingredient) – helps support skin barrier recovery.

💧 Glycerin & mineral oil – help hydrate the skin and reduce moisture loss.

My nurse’s take? When your skin barrier is struggling, less is often more. Put the actives on pause, simplify your routine and focus on barrier support.

Save this for your next skincare SOS! 🫶🏼

Just give me 9 minutes and a Dyson 🤍

Im so very careful about heat on my hair so Dyson is my go to heat styler, plus heat protectant! I can’t emphasize that enough 🫶🏼 the round brush is such an underrated tool and I’ve found a way that’s super quick and easy to use, if you have a Airwrap give this a go and tell me how it works for you!

@wearfigs try on haul incoming soon for my fellow nurses 👩🏻‍⚕️🤍

I finally bit the bullet and tried the scrub flare pants. As a committed jogger girl, it was either going to be a LOVE or a hate…

Safe to say it was LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I’m actually wearing the first pair of figs I ever bought in this video, which was over 7 years ago! And since getting married last year, I thought it was finally time for a new scrub wardrobe with my new last name 🥹🤍

Azelaic acid is having its moment, but do you actually need it? I am all about intentional skincare and a minimal routine 🤍

It can be a great option for:
✨ Blemish prone skin
✨ Redness & inflammation
✨ Rosacea prone skin
✨ Post acne marks & pigmentation

And despite the name, azelaic acid isn’t an exfoliating acid like an AHA or BHA. It works differently and can be a well tolerated option for many skin types.

But the biggest mistake I see? Constantly switching actives before giving them enough time to work.

My top azelaic acid picks:

💚 ANUA Azelaic Acid 10% - My pick if you’re looking for a gentler introduction to azelaic acid. It’s formulated with soothing and hydrating ingredients including panthenol, hyaluronic acid, centella and ceramide, and is tested as low irritation.

💙 La Roche-Posay A.Z. Gel 10% - A great option for blemish prone or congested skin. Alongside 10% azelaic acid, it contains salicylic acid to help exfoliate and unclog pores, plus hyaluronic acid for hydration.

🤍 Azclear Action Medicated Lotion 20% - The highest strength azelaic acid option of the three and 20% azelaic acid. It’s an Australian pharmacy medicine indicated for mild - moderate acne and papulopustular rosacea, so make sure you follow the label directions.

Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated, consistency > constantly chasing the next ingredient.

As an aesthetic nurse, my pre wedding beauty prep was actually really simple 🥰

First, I didn’t change my skincare. This is not the time to start experimenting, I’ve seen way too many brides introduce new products or treatments right before their wedding and end up irritating or breaking out their skin.

I kept up with my regular wrinkle reducing & collagen stimulating treatments, skin peels and LED therapy, nothing new or extreme.

Sunscreen every single day, because the last thing you want before your wedding is a sunburn, pigmentation or irritated skin.

And honestly, the rest wasn’t glamorous. I focused on eating well, drinking more water and getting my steps in(which wasn’t hard with all the running around for wedding prep🫣).

That’s it. You don’t need to completely overhaul yourself just because you’re getting married 🫶🏼

Putting myself first never felt so good 🥹

A few years ago, my skin & hair were suffering and I realised I wasn’t really making time for myself either.

So I made a conscious effort to do at least one thing for me every day, whether that’s my skincare, haircare, movement or simply slowing down and giving myself grace.

Turns out, those little things add up 🤍
