QUALIFIED!

4 years ago I left a successful career in Marketing & Media to chase a different dream of working for myself, working outside with my hands, taking on new challenges and becoming a builder. Today is a huge milestone in my journey as my apprenticeship comes to an end… I’m proud to say that I’m now a qualified carpenter.

When I was locked down at home in covid, and stuck in an office, behind a computer every day staring out the window, I knew there had to more to it than this.

I took a huge risk. Back to minimum wage. Never picked up a power tool before in my life. But now I’ve never been happier and had greater satisfaction waking up to go to work and building cool shit every day.

It hasn’t been a small 4 years either and I’ve worked my ass off to get here. I got engaged, bought a house, got married, became a father, had a couple of stints on TV playing survivor, ran a side hustle selling hats and combined a bunch of my skills and passions creating content on site and working with some epic brands.

Some advice I got from an old boss many moons ago - Some times you have to look up and make sure your ladder is leaning up against the right wall. Funny how I now spend my days climbing ladders.

There’s big plans in the pipeline. Thanks to my wife Bec for the support. And to @taylorsuttonprojects and @happy_haus for giving me a shot and guiding me through my apprenticeship. And to all you legends who have followed and supported my journey. I promise to make you all proud as a tradesman.

I’ll sleep when I’m dead.
Let’s fkn go!

Snuff’d!!! What a ride. What an absolute ride.

I love this game and everything about it. I came to Samoa for redemption and to leave my mark on the game of Survivor. I achieved so much more than I ever could have dreamed of and I did it in a way which I never thought was possible.

Some lifelong memories and new friends

To everyone who has been in my corner, everyone who bought a Snuff’d hat, anyone who has flicked me a message, cheered me on from the couch, screamed through their TV screen in support… especially through the tough times, thank you. To my friends and family, thanks for joining me on the roller coaster. And to my wife @bec__kate, thank you for your love and support.

In the game of survivor, you either die a villain or you live long enough to see yourself become a h… a goofball with a dream and a fake cookie idol who never gave up 🍪🤷🏻‍♂️

Good luck to the Final 5 ❤️

Big love

When it feels like the whole world is against you… Sometimes you just need to find the strength to keep turning up for yourself 👊🏽

Pulling off a 2v1 clutch victory for the win 🙌🏽🔥

I know I’ve joked about not having any friends in this game, but @hayleyleake_ you were always there for me, even when we couldn’t be seen together. To play this game not once but twice with you has been an honor and a pleasure ☺️

This little puppy will always be grateful for your adoption and the home you’ve given me 🐶 Now it’s time to avenge my fallen Queen and shake some sense into these pawns ♟️👑♟️

This week in chippy life… Tight cuts and tight spaces

- Plenty of VJ sheets going up in the old Queenslander
- The 40v 125mm saw/ AWS vac combo from @makitaaustralia got a workout. Extended hose on the vac is a must and new blades cutting like butter from @mak_oz_accessories 🧈
- Everything came out of the ute.
- Keeping hydrated with @stanley1913_australia & my daily addictions to @thorzt
- And working in a few tight spaces I didn’t think my ego would fit

Tradies are constantly getting banged up at work, so its important to look after the one thing on site that you can’t replace.

Trying to renovate our bathroom and toilet for under $20k. Day 5: Framing and Rough In.

Bit on to say the least 🫠

Walls are up!
Plumbers have roughed and replaced all of the old feed pipes under the house.
Electrical also roughed in.

Tool of the Day: The 360° line laser. So incredibly handy to ensure everything is square, straight and plumb.

We got our first look at the warm brushed nickel hardware from @yabby.com.au which looks 🔥 and arrived just 20 minutes before we needed it… And the client approved all of fixture locations.

Still waiting for the invoice from the plumber, and there’s a few more big expenses ahead with more materials needed for sheeting.

Follow along and we will see where this ends up 💸

Trying to renovate our bathroom and toilet for under $20k. Day 4: Flooring & Framing

Made the most of an extra set of hands today with my mate from work, all round good bloke and fellow beer enthusiast Charlie. The beer economy is in safe hands @xxxx.beer

✅ Sistered up the floor joists
✅ Demo’d the wall in the hallway
✅ Beam up to support the roof above the cav slider
✅ Flooring down

Huge push and stoked with the progress.

By knocking out the hallway wall, obnoxious linen cupboard and putting a cab slider in, we’ve gained about 350mm in the bathroom which was very needed.

Redoing the joists under the house for a flush transition to the bathroom just wasn’t an option given the set up.

Tool of the day: @paslodeaus NightWolf Framer. Always punches hard, even into the hardwood.

Now time for a bit of framing 👊🏽
Follow along and we’ll play again tomorrow!

Trying to renovate our bathroom and toilet for under $20k. Day 3: (more demo)

I was hoping I wasn’t going to have to replace the flooring but here we are. No brainer at the end of the day. I’ve also stripped all the horizontal battens off the walls and will sister up the studs and joists to reframe everything straight and square. Anyone telling you, you can do a complete Reno of your bathroom for under $10k is going to bypass these steps.

The floor that’s going down is a compressed fibre cement sheet by @jameshardieau called Secura flooring. Suitable for tiling and bedding in wet areas.

Tool of the day:
@makitaaustralia zero clearance saw, for cutting flooring out flush against my bottom plate. Combined with the a 40v wireless vac to capture all the sawdust and keep it out of the rest of my house. HS014G 125mm saw and VC013GLZ02 Cordless Vac.

Looking forward to pulling my tool belt on and getting some shit built tomorrow.

That $20k budget is shaking in its boots 🚀

We will play again tomorrow

Day 2 of trying to renovate our bathroom and toilet for under $20k.

Day 2: More Demo

Is $20k a realistic budget for a bathroom in 2026? I’m trying to find out.

Running total prior to today was $11,559 (slightly adjusted for accuracy)

Tool of the day: a good old 750mm wrecking bar 👊🏽

Shout out to my burner boy @netty_unfilted - go follow him if you haven’t already 🪵

I’ve decided to strip out all the old battens, and I’m going to frame it all nice and fresh, and sister the studs. I’m also going to rip up the timber and lay new Secura (Scyon) flooring for the tiles and bedding. So tomorrow will be a big material run, and we will see how much of that 20k budget we have left 💸

Follow along… We’ll play again tomorrow.
