Just an absolute honour to perform Britten’s masterpiece again, alongside such incredibly talented colleagues. Last night in Heerlen, tomorrow afternoon at the Muziekgebouw here in Eindhoven.

One more to go, and what an absolute joy it’s been. A terrific group of colleagues, an incredible theatre and a fascinating character to get inside of for a couple of months. Toitoitoi to all for La Dernière!

A few days at home; time to reflect on an exhausting but exhilarating few days in Minden as Hans Sachs.
.
“Simon Bailey’s portrayal of Hans Sachs is magnificent. It was the role debut for the British bass-baritone. Following his interpretations of Wotan and the Wanderer, he delivers a moving, sensitive, yet incredibly powerful Hans Sachs, never sparing his breath. He sings the role with noble presence, human grandeur, and immense vocal and interpretive mastery. Bailey shapes the character as a wise, vulnerable mediator between tradition and innovation, with crystal-clear diction and fantastic phrasing. His interpretation was reminiscent of great predecessors such as James Morris and Thomas Stewart.”
