Depuis cet été, le préau de l’école de Pâquis-Centre accueille une œuvre de l’artiste Simone Holliger, réalisée en collaboration avec l’artiste-architecte Ester Alemayehu Hatle. La sculpture, aux allures de créature lacustre, anime un édicule jusqu’ici purement utilitaire.

After two years of intensive work, EUCARYOTE, a sculpture I made in collaboration with Ester Alemayehu Hatle for the courtyard of École Pâquis-Centre in Geneva, will be officially unveiled.

What a journey! And what a team effort!
I’d like to thank @ester_alemayehu_hatle for our collaboration, our exchanges, and our friendship. A heartfelt thank you also to @leonorenemec , who pulled so many strings. A huge thank you goes to @kunstbetrieb_ag especially to Samuel, Majella, and Reto, for all their ideas and their perseverance.
Thank you to the @fmac.geneve team, especially Marie-Eve for her constant support, as well as Isaline, Camille, and Saskia, and everyone else involved.

In the centre of the courtyard at Pâquis-Centre School, EUCARYOTE unfolds like an organic creature on an emergency-exit structure, oscillating between the animal, vegetal, and mineral realms, belonging to none, yet approaching the realm of myth.

As a new addition to the school’s campus, EUCARYOTE adds another layer of identity to its surroundings. It creates a space for gathering, participation, rest, storytelling, and play, for children and others within the Pâquis neighbourhood.

Une nouvelle œuvre d’art a vu le jour cet été dans l’espace public ▪ « Eucaryote »

Dans le préau de l’école de Pâquis-Centre, une présence accompagne désormais le quotidien des élèves et du quartier.

Réalisée par l’artiste Simone Holliger, en collaboration avec Ester Alemayehu Hatle, Eucaryote prend la forme d’une créature bienveillante, presque totémique, issue d’un imaginaire puisé dans les profondeurs du lac.

L’œuvre est le résultat d’un concours sur invitation organisé par le FMAC, le Service de l’enfance et la Direction du patrimoine bâti de la Ville de Genève. Le processus a également associé des représentant·es de l’école, des habitant·es et des associations du quartier, afin d’inscrire ce projet au plus près de son environnement.

Fellow in Visual Arts Simone Holliger invites the dancer and choreographer Adriana Borriello (@daredanceresearch and the electroacoustic musician Edoardo Maria Bellucci (@edd_blc ) to interact with the forms, figures, and ideas of her sculptural practice. Movement, stillness, strength and vulnerability converge. The ensemble creates an intimate yet collective experience of the body in space. This synergy culminates in « Setting in Motion, » an experimental and performative moment that comes to life in the exhibition spaces of Villa Maraini.
