September had range.

A look back at my week in Nashville for the National Urban League Conference. As always, I managed to mix in a little fun and enjoy the city while I was there too.

Long days, early mornings, last-minute pivots, and countless moving pieces all came together to create space for important conversations, meaningful connections and moments that mattered.

Tyler Smith and Nolan Wells both died on July 4. While authorities ruled Tyler’s death an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound, his family has continued to raise questions about the investigation and seek additional answers.

This is Tyler’s grandmother Necee Anderson sharing what life has been like since Tyler’s death and why they continue to speak out.

During the National Urban League Conference I produced a press conference with Attorney Ben Crump and the families of Nolan Wells, Tyler Smith, and Daniel Erving.

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to produce a press conference with Attorney Ben Crump and the families of Nolan Wells, Tyler Smith and Daniel Erving.

Until this press conference, I hadn’t even heard about the deaths of Daniel Erving and Tyler Smith. It reminded me that there are families fighting for answers whose stories never receive widespread attention.

While you may have seen brief news clips or headlines many people haven’t had the opportunity to hear directly from the families in their own words.

Over the next several posts, I’ll be sharing portions of their remarks as they describe the challenges they’ve faced in their pursuit of answers and accountability.

The families asked that we continue sharing their stories to help keep them in the public eye. I’m honored to do my small part by sharing their voices.
