A reminder that all SFU campuses will be closed on Wednesday, September 30 for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Also known as Orange Shirt Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect, come together in the spirit of Reconciliation, and honour the survivors, families, and communities impacted by Canada’s residential school system. by @simonfraseru

Fall convocation is just around the corner! 🎓🎊

Whether you're a graduand or will be on campus on October 8 and 9, there are some things you'll want to know:
➡️ Graduands should check deadlines and schedules to confirm attendance, reserve regalia, claim tickets, and plan for the big day.
➡️ Convocation attendees are asked to review the bag policy, dress appropriately for the weather, and be aware of what is permitted and not permitted in the ceremony area.
➡️ Anyone commuting to Burnaby campus is encouraged to plan ahead and to expect a higher volume of traffic as well as limited parking. Please follow signage and traffic control staff.

🎉 Most importantly, we hope everyone has a wonderful time celebrating the hard work and accomplishments of this year's graduands and is inspired by the energy that will soon fill campus!

Swipe to see your guide to campus views at SFU! 🍁

City on one side, mountains on the other. Grab a blanket and watch the sunset from here 🌄

Views of the North Shore mountains between lectures? Yes please 🏔️

This is your sign to take the long way 👀 Rooftop seating above the field, with mountain views on the other. Definitely worth the detour!

Pro tip: Grab a seat by the windows in your top-floor AQ classes for a perfect view of the pond 🌿

Want to study with a view? Head to the deck of West Mall Centre and take in those mountain views while you work 📚 taken in Simon Fraser University by @simonfraseru

Since time immemorial, two languages have been spoken by Host Nations of the SFU Burnaby campus: hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is spoken by the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Peoples, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh is spoken by the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Peoples.

Using these names going forward honours the Nations’ traditional territories and their ongoing stewardship of the territory and places on our campus.

Working in partnership with Kwikwetlem, Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam Nations and Indigenous members of the university community, SFU is grateful to have received Indigenous names for the Burnaby campus, the First Peoples’ Gathering House and three other locations on campus significant to Indigenous faculty, staff and students.

This Indigenous naming project supports our commitment to advance Truth and Reconciliation, one of the priorities of What’s Next, and is a meaningful action in partnership with Indigenous peoples to create safe, welcoming places for Indigenous students, staff and faculty to learn, teach and work.
