A good first hit out for our Surfers Beachies last weekend at the first round of the QLD Beach Series, doubling also as a round of the Beachstormers National Beach Series. It was awesome to have Masters involved in the series for the first time in QLD, with Surfers fielding our biggest team so far and placing 2nd in the point score. Some really good performances this early in the season with Surfers claiming 5 GOLDS. by @simonharris01

This weekend the Surfers Beachies were stoked to have ‘The Delaware Destroyer’ Lainey Shockro back with the squad. Her Surfers Family. Lainey has been back in the United States competing with her home club the Sussex County Lifesaving Association (SCLA) helping them take out their 3rd CONSECUTIVE NATIONAL TITLE by nearly 300 points💪🏻 Lainey competed in the flags, sprint, beach relay, rescue tube and taplin, medalling in every event to help her club dominate. Lainey’s dad, Derek Shockro is the head coach and team manager for SCLA and is now a proud signed up member of the Surfers Paradise SLSC. Lainey’s focus now shifts to the World Lifesaving Championships in South Africa in December. Look out World, TEAM SHOCKRO is coming for you. by @simonharris01

We had a special guest at the Surfers Beachies flags session on Sunday. All the way from Viking Surf Sports in Dubai. Stephen ‘Munners’ Munnery was a member of Killcare SLSC before settling in Dubai and starting his own Lifesaving Club, Vikings Surf Sports. Munners won the Australian Open Men’s Beach Sprint Gold back to back in 2001 and 2002 whilst also dominating the Open Men’s Beach relay with 5 Aussie Gold in a row from 2000-2004. More importantly he has been close mates with our own Simon Harris for around 30 years. Munners is in training for the masters sprint and flags at the upcoming World Championships in South Africa and has been in contact with Simon throughout his training. Vikings Surf Sports will be taking a team of 12 to South Africa and they are lucky to be mentored by such an accomplished sprinter. Our other special guest was Munners’ daughter Flo, who seems to have inherited dad’s speed. Was so good to have the Munnery clan join our squad. by @simonharris01

Welcome to the Surfers Beachies Family Lachlan Alleyne and Swayde Cole. Lachy joins us from Southport last season, but Bribie Island through his junior years. Lachy found success early in beach flags taking out the U15 Australian Championships Gold in 2016. Lachy has been back for a couple of years now after taking a break from the sport. Working as a real estate agent and travelling down to the coast for training with the squad. Lachy will be a great addition to our team, after making the Open Flags final at Aussies last year it will be great to see himself and Jett push each other all season at training and in races, look out for these two fighting it out for the top of the podium this year.
Swayde Cole joins us from Mordialloc in Victoria. Swayde has also previously won U15 Australian Championships Gold in 2023. Swayde was a competitive gymnast training 30 hours a week in Melbourne whilst also training for sprints, flags, board and ski. Swayde has moved to the Gold Coast to study Physiotherapy. Collecting Bronze in both the u19 Sprint and Flags at Aussies last year we can’t wait to see what she can do this season in her 2nd year in U19s and with a full off season focusing on beach events. The coach believes she can do big things this season.

Two amazing additions to our squad, I can’t wait to see these two rep the Gold Star. by @simonharris01

Our own ‘Delaware Destroyer’ Lainey Shockro completed her last session with the Surfers Beachies last night before heading back to the US today to race at the US Nationals with the goal of making the US team to compete at this year’s World Lifesaving Championships. Lainey has been training the house down since Aussies and is focused, determined and ready to take on her countrymen. Our whole squad believe in you Lainey, now go out there and get the ‘Business’ DONE, then hurry back home to your Aussie home and family. by @simonharris01

It was devastating on Saturday to watch the man I love have to say goodbye to his dad, Don Harris (Deigo). But it was much easier to be surrounded by family and people who loved Don at a place they both loved so much. He has left such a massive whole in our lives, from speaking everyday on the phone, and getting him to the ‘Land of Scam’ when ever we could. RIP Don by @simonharris01

With the new season starting this week, we decided to look back at some of the funny moments from filming this squad at training last season. Disclaimer this reel mostly contains the many sibling fights between @jett.ferguson_ and @lilyyalford. The coach says the reason he is bald and grey, is from listening to the crap these two go on with 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤣 although the coach encourages this banter as he finds it hilarious. I hope you enjoy this training recap ahead of another big season for the Surfers Beachies. by @simonharris01

Our last medallist from the Open Australian Championships Jett Milford -Ferguson. The ‘OG’ Surfers Beachie. This is Jett’s 6th season racing under Simon Harris, after 5 years dominating age group Beach Flags, this year Jetty was in Open Men’s for the first time. A big step up. But Jetty turned up this season ready to take that step. Although illness hampered the start of his season, he still turned up to every session, did strides and supported the team. He looked impressive all year. Then in the big show he stepped up like a seasoned pro and rubbed shoulders with the “A graders” and fitted in like he’d been there for years. His ability to ‘Switch on’ and adapt to anything thrown in his direction, shows maturity beyond his young age when it comes to the big events. Jett claimed a hard fought Silver medal in the Open Men’s Beach Flags in a quality field. We all know that if he continues on this path he will be a dominate force for years to come. by @simonharris01
