What a day yesterday! 3rd in Europe and Deadlift Bronze.

For the first time since 2021 I was competing without the need to cut water. After the British Masters 2023 in June I set myself a 36 week nutrition plan broken down into a 12 week bulk, 12 week cut and 12 week reverse diet. It worked, weighed in at 65.72kg having already eaten some breakfast and the difference was obvious.

I hadn’t counted on being diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis (Broken back) in the middle of the cut phase, but this sport will throw you curve balls sometimes! We adapt and overcome.

Best lifts:

SQUAT: 170kg (+5kg PB)
BENCH: 117.5kg (=comp PB)
DEADLIFT: 212.5kg (+2.5kg PB) 🥉

TOTAL: 500kg (+7.5kg PB) 🥉

Thanks as always to @charmacpt - she has definitely had her work cut out this time managing the injury and the many meltdowns along the way including a huge 2 week out tantrum 😂 I’ve said it before but she really is the best in the sport. She has an undeniable passion for powerlifting and works tirelessly to support athletes, not just those that she coaches, but anyone she ever sees in need of help or support 💚

Thank you to @deadliftbig for giving me the opportunity to represent GB again. A true honour. Thanks to the other GB coaches, @coggles_fitness and Alan, for their help and support on the day.

Thanks to everyone who has messaged me and given their support either over social media or vocally on the day, to all my @unifiedstrengthmethods and GB team mates and to the officials, spotters and loaders and everyone at @powerhispania and @the_epf_ for putting on a top level championship.

Huge thanks to my biggest supporter, not just in sport, but in life in general @debbievoakes. You make it all so much easier, love you loads ❤️

Feeling pretty beat up now but with the British Bench Press Championships in just 2 weeks, I’ll be back to work @home_of_the_spartans tomorrow, let’s go! 💪

I only expected to be leaving Budapest with one of these, the one on the left, given to all participants for competing. And that would have been enough, the opportunity to lift for Great Britain is something I am immensely proud of.

To also come away with a Bronze medal for Bench Press is just unreal. I’m absolutely buzzing.

Full recap to follow.

📢 Welcome to the team, Fiona MacGregor!

I’m delighted to welcome @fimac_fitness to the team.

Competing in the Open 69kg class and known to her friends as the Queen of Anti-Gravity, Fiona has already achieved what many lifters spend years working towards, earning England representation in just her first two years of competing. That’s an incredible foundation to build from.

What excites me even more is that I genuinely believe she’s only scratched the surface. Fiona has huge potential across all three lifts, and I’m looking forward to helping her unlock the next level of performance.

The goals are clear, and I’m confident there will be plenty more PBs, records, international appearances and podiums to add to the list in the years ahead. by @simonvoakes

🔥 WELCOME TO THE TEAM – SAM HINES 🔥

I’m incredibly excited to welcome @tharealist75 to the team as we begin the next chapter of her powerlifting journey.

Sam is no stranger to the platform, having competed from 2017 to 2021 and building an impressive competitive resume along the way. Her standout achievement came at the 2019 British Masters Championships, where she not only secured 2nd place for the second consecutive year, but also set a new British M1 72kg Deadlift Record with an enormous 190.5kg pull. 💪

Like many athletes, Sam’s momentum was disrupted when the world entered lockdown in 2020. However, she returned to competition in 2021, stepping onto the platform in the newly formed 76kg class and earning 3rd place at the British Championships.

After taking some time away from competition, Sam has recently returned to training with her sights firmly set on a return to the platform, this time as an M2 lifter.

I’m privileged to be in her corner and helping engineer her comeback. With her experience, determination, and proven ability to perform when it matters most, I have no doubt that the best is yet to come and that new successes are waiting just around the corner.

Please join me in giving Sam a huge welcome to the team and following along as we build towards her return to competition! by @simonvoakes

🇬🇧 British Masters Championships Recap 🇬🇧

@cswoodward stepped onto the platform at the British Masters Championships in Edinburgh on 7th June and secured an excellent 3rd place finish in the highly competitive M1 U63kg class.

Her lifts were:

Squat: 152.5kg (+5kg PB)
Bench Press: 80kg
Deadlift: 162.5kg

This result is even more impressive when you consider Catherine was only beaten by two exceptional lifters who went on to claim 1st and 2nd place Best Lifter awards. The standard in this class was incredibly high.

The highlight of the day was a well-deserved 152.5kg squat PB, earned through months of consistent hard work.

While bench press didn’t quite reflect the level we know she’s capable of, what stood out most was her response.

Rather than letting it affect the rest of her competition, Catherine stayed composed, reset her focus, and delivered a flawless 3/3 deadlift performance. Finishing just 2.5kg shy of her deadlift personal best.

As a coach, performances like this are about more than numbers. They are about resilience, character, and the ability to keep pushing when things haven’t gone perfectly. Catherine showed all of that and more.

This result means a lot. Not just because it’s a British Championship medal, but because I’ve had the privilege of seeing first hand the work, sacrifices, and commitment that have gone into getting here. Watching Catherine stand on that podium was a genuinely proud moment for me, both as her coach and as her friend.

There is still more to come. We’ll take the lessons from this competition, build on the successes, address the areas we can improve, and keep moving forward together. Very proud of you, Catherine. by @simonvoakes
