“This is my dream, everything here is my dream.”

A house by the sea with its own tower feels like a fairytale.

Emily Chalmers, interior stylist, author, and founder of much-loved shop @caravanstyle is opening the doors to @seatowerbungalow her family home turned shoot location, which she calls “the biggest styling project of my life.”

With its romantic two-storey tower and a garden that ends dramatically at a cliff edge, there’s a magical quality to Sea Tower. Inside, there are endless moments to delight, like Alice in Wonderland, the rooms are unexpected shapes and sizes, and everywhere there’s an imaginative, playful detail.

Sea Tower is a place made for creativity, wonder and dreams.

“I want people who come here to feel at ease and calm… a space to create, that’s how I think of it.”

Emily is also relaunching her shop online, a place that, just like her home, is an eccentric mix of thoughtful finds and timeless treasures, always with a touch of romance.

Read the full article in the final issue of @91magazine It sold out before it was published, but copies are available to buy from @caravanstyle and other stockists

Even when you’ve mastered your craft, it can be a struggle to communicate its true value.

This is where brand clarity makes the difference, transforming your work into a story that sells.

Sharing some recent client work for @colinparker_furniture an established business, as they prepare for the next chapter.

The company has decades of craftsmanship behind it, but wanted help to articulate what makes their work distinctive as part of a wider rebranding process.

With detailed research into their approach, ideal clients, competitors and market, we were able to clearly define their story, capturing their skill and unwavering commitment to quality.

‘Beautifully bespoke furniture crafted in Scotland with the finest materials, traditional skills and meticulous attention to detail.’

Creating crafted furniture and spaces for those who seek unparalleled quality and craftsmanship.

Every commission is a personal collaboration, tailored to reflect the individuality and lifestyle of each client, delivered with integrity and discretion.’

The result is a detailed brand guide that will bring consistency and confidence to every touchpoint, supporting their growth while staying true to what makes the business exceptional.

Something new is taking root…

There’s so much life in the garden,
And finally, some rain.
Relief for the plants; a gentle nudge for me to return to my desk.
From my messy, wild veg patch, a quiet reminder that change is always happening — often slowly, often unseen.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to thoughts of transformation, to new ways of thinking, working and being. The kind of ideas that feel exciting, a little scary, and just out of reach.

Early days. Seeds just planted. Full of possibility…

A love story for International Women’s Day. A personal one, about the woman who inspires me every day.

My beautiful mum.

She died when I was still a child, but in the short time we had, she left an incredible influence on me.

Ahead of her time, she was passionate about women in the workforce, championing the idea that flexible work could unlock female talent. She helped create and led a recruitment company called Part-Time Careers.

In 1988, she was featured in the Financial Times discussing her research and vision:

“Employers are having to change their traditional workplace organisation to accommodate women because of labour market pressures. The trend is growing…making part-time work available is becoming increasingly necessary as one way of retaining and recruiting working mothers with skills.”

I used to love visiting her office during school holidays, mesmerised by the glamour and grit of Soho in the ‘80s. Years later, I worked there too, producing TV documentaries, with the ghosts of the old Soho characters and memories of my mum on every corner.

She was a natural entrepreneur. Before having children and working in recruitment, she ran a jewellery stall at Portobello market and worked in fashion and retail. I keep a letter pinned above my desk - an American friend writing to her about plans my mum had to import products she’d discovered abroad to sell in London. She was always looking for the next opportunity.

She would have loved my BBC career. I think she would be proud of Simple Matters Media too - finding my own way as a working mother and supporting other brilliant women to do the same.

*I also inherited her love for Nina Simone ♥️

What will last are the stories we tell.
In a world of billionaires and robots, where algorithms fight for our attention, it’s the things that make us human that matter most.

The stories we share.
The connections we create.
The things we make with care.

In all the digital noise, the brands that will not just survive but thrive, are the ones with a strong story. They’re the brands that make you pause, think, and feel.

Craft a story for your business that’s worth telling. One that goes beyond features and benefits to touch on something meaningful and memorable.

This spring, start a new chapter for your business. Send me a DM or email to get my client pack and create a story that sells.

Some stories and people come along just when you need them most.

This winter, I’ve found myself questioning where and how my work fits in a world of billionaires and robots.

Then, I had the privilege of interviewing @tobystrong1, a multi-Emmy and BAFTA-winning cinematographer who films Earth’s wildest places. When he’s not tracking elephants and cheetahs, he’s also a shopkeeper curating handmade treasures in his Devon shop, Craftmongers.

Our conversation restored my sense of hope in a future where story, craft and connection still matter and are, in fact, vital.

“The table, this phone is on that I’m talking to you on, I made it, and it makes the everyday magical, the knife you cut with, the plate you eat from, the jumper you wear. It has a lineage and it has a story. We crave it. We want that more than ever now.

Everything comes back to storytelling. Storytelling has been stripped from us, and we must regain it.”

Read the full interview on my website, link in bio. I promise it’s worth a few minutes of your time and attention.

Light on the horizon.

Every new year, I choose a word to be my north star.

For 2024, it was ‘softness’ - trying to approach life’s everyday challenges and stresses with a little more ease.

This year, the word I want to guide my life and work is ‘adventure’.

I welcomed 2025 with my first mini-adventure of the year, a winter walk along Offa’s Dyke and this beautiful sunset.

Do you have a word or intention for this year? If so, I’d love to know yours, do share in the comments or send me a DM. by @simplemattersmedia
