You don't need to overhaul your whole home.

Sometimes, you just need to solve 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.

Shoes always piling up by the door? Give them a home.
Keys getting lost? Give them a home.
Backpacks landing wherever they happen to land. Give them a home.

Start by identifying 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲.

Swipe right for the before: an under-the-stairs closet filed with gift bags, wrapping paper, cleaning supplies, throw pillows and no system.

After: a calm, fully functional storage system that actually works for real life.

We decluttered, created zones, and used tension rods to maximize a tricky slanted wall — turning unused space into smart vertical storage (without expensive shelving!).

10 Simple Holiday Decor Storage Tips 🎄

1. Use what you already have first
Before buying bins, look around your home—totes, baskets, banker boxes, laundry baskets, even suitcases work great.
2. If you need more containers, go clear
Clear storage = no guessing next year. You’ll see what you have without opening every bin.
3. Edit before you store
If you didn’t use it this year (or hated putting it up), that’s your sign. Don’t store things you already know you won’t use again.
4. Donate or pass it along NOW
Don’t let unused decor take up another year of space. Donate while it’s still in season or give it to someone who will love it.
5. Group by category, not by room
Store ornaments with ornaments, lights with lights, outdoor decor together—even if they were used in different spaces. There are some exceptions but I’ve found grouping by category to work best.
6. Protect the fragile stuff intentionally
Wrap breakables in what you already have: towels, linens, paper bags, or even plastic grocery bags.
7. Label for Future You
Quick labels like “Tree Decor,” “Outdoor Lights,” or “Mantel Only” save time and frustration next year.
8. Keep holiday decor together
One zone = one decision. Whether it’s a shelf, closet, or corner of the garage, keep it all in one place if possible.
9. Store by ease of setup
Put the things you use every year in the most accessible spot. The “maybe someday” stuff goes higher or farther back.
10. Think: easy to put away, easy to pull out
If it’s a pain to store, it’ll be a pain next year. Simple systems are the ones that actually last.
