A beginners guide to financing a car. In this first post, what are some of the ways you can purchase a car and what are the associated pros and cons? Likely to be among the most substantial purchases we are likely to make in our lives, doing your research is very important!

Many of us are guilty of prioritising liabilities like cars above things that push us forward financially.

Until Next time.

Part 2/2:
We dive deeper into some of the upfront costs associated with buying a home (we know... it's a lot). We'd encourage anyone with the aim of buying a place soon to start your research on all of these costs sooner rather than later so it isn't a shock.

As always we hope this series has been useful and we no doubt will cover plenty more on this subject.

Until Next time.

Part 1/2:
We recently looked at moving out costs for those looking to rent, but what do these costs look like if you are preparing to purchase a new place? In this first part we introduce some of the key costs associated with buying your first home. In the next part we will explain them and give an example using the average UK home price!

This is by no means a comprehensive list of costs. For example, you might need to arrange movers for your belongings, pay for furniture or even pay an administration fee to use your LISA or Help to Buy ISA. Hopefully, it can serve to give a pretty good idea of what you are working towards when saving for a home.

Until Next time.

In a year synonymous with  “work from home”, furloughs and uncertainty, many young people have found themselves back at home. The uncertainty of work has made it difficult to justify paying high rents in locations which lose their appeal when there is no longer a need to commute. As we look forward to society beginning to open up and return to normal we thought it would be a good time to have a look at the costs of moving out, whether for the first time or again.

We hope you find it useful, or at the very least a bit interesting! Stay tuned. We have some great things in the pipeline!

This month as part of the 2021 budget, the UK Government announced the mortgage guarantee scheme. This scheme will facilitate mortgages backed by the government and provide support to lenders to provide higher LTV mortgages. The same affordability requirements and assessments will still apply to borrowers however it aims to reduce large upfront capital costs of getting on the property ladder. Here are some key points.

N.B. Borrowers are still able to use their resoective ISAs (LISA or help to buy) to help with their deposits.

Until Next time.

Happy Friday everyone!

As this current tax year (running from 6th April 2020 - 5th April 2021) comes to an end, this is a reminder to make use of your ISA allowances before they are reset in April. Especially to secure the max government bonus in your Lifetime ISA. In this account, the Government will top-up all your contributions with a 25% bonus (Up to £1000). Be aware that depending on your ISA provider, this will likely mean depositing the money up to a week in advance in time for collection.

Go back and have a look at our ISA series for more detail on ISAs.

Until Next time.

Part 2/2:
*Market caps correct as of 09/03/2020*
*Disclaimer: This is not financial advice.*

Part 2 and we delve a little deeper into cryptocurrencies. For the sake of transparency, it is worth also stating that I am an advocate of cryptocurrencies. I think the concept and the technology behind them are brilliant. Nevertheless, I try to be as objective as possible when presenting information to you guys.

I understand there is a lot of information here, but I urge you to take some time to gain a high level understanding of what they are and what all the hype is about. I do not know if currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum are the final evolution of cryptocurrencies but I am confident this is only the beginning. If after doing your own research you agree, why not also invest in that future? But remember, this is not financial advice.

Until next time.

Part 1:
Happy Thursday everyone! It is good to be back. Apologies for the long break, life was happening.

We are back with a topic that you'll probably be able to tell I am quite passionate about. Cryptocurrencies have seen so much hype and press over the last couple of months. And this is not the first time.

So what is all the hype about? And should you be paying attention? These are some of the questions I hope to answer in this series. In this first part, What are cryptocurrencies? I want to stress a point made in the post. Understanding how they technically work is not necessarily important. There are so many things we use on a daily basis that we would struggle to give a technical breakdown of how they work. What I really want you to be clear on by the end of the series is the premise behind cryptocurrencies and understand why they may/ may not be a technology for the future.

Until next time.

***Edit: on slide 3. Help to buy and mortgage rows in the first table should be swapped!***
Part 2 Help to Buy Equity Loan:
(Our analysis of the help to buy equity loan scheme is of the variant offered in England).

We aim to have a look at the true cost of this help to buy scheme. There is plenty to weigh up when deciding if it is the right choice for you, we simply want you to be in the best place to make that decision.

As with any major financial decision, take your time. Find people on both sides of the fence and try to learn from their experiences.

Let us know if you'd like to share your experience of Help to Buy and we will gladly share it with everyone.

Until next time.
