Happy Independence Barbados!🇧🇧

To know Bajans, is to know our love for dancing-
It’s in our blood, our celebrations and one of the many ways we express our pride and joy.

From a simple foot tap to folk dances that tell our stories, our lively dance communities and, of course, a good Ol’ Bajan Wukup, dance has a way of bringing us together!

Cheers to the moves and rhythms that celebrate who we are!💃🏼

Shout out to the National Cultural Foundation and RBM Creative for providing a platform to express appreciation for my home!

🔥‼️GUEST TEACHER ALERT ‼️🔥 The one and only Sim Simma @simply.simsimma will be teaching Afro Jazz and Wuk-Shop the next two weeks! Both classes are on Wednesdays want to join? Message to find out how!

Simon Gill.. a creative soul with many talents and accomplishments from the island of Barbados. She started ballet at the age of four (4) at The Dance Place where she attained distinctions in the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations up to Grade 8 level. In Barbados, she performed at many local events and festivals such as the Gold Cup Parade, Crop Over and NIFCA, where her dance education expanded to incorporate a variety of styles such as: contemporary, modern, afro-Caribbean, jazz, soca, urban and hip hop genres. She is also a member of the Barbadian dance collective Riddim Tribe, founded by Aisha Comissiong, with whom she would have performed with the Arturo Tappin Band in Toronto, and taught a dance intensive in St Vincent. Simon has represented Barbados regionally and internationally as a dancer and choreographer.

In 2018, she moved to London to pursue her MSc in Forensic Medical Science, but dance often follows at the base of her heels. She quickly aligned with Zaiah Arts, a soca class based in London, where she became assistant teacher and choreographer, in an effort to share the love of the culture. She competed for the Queen Mary University of London’s dance team and placed second with her contemporary choreography piece. However, this love for dance spilled over into other aspects in her life where she also modelled regionally and internationally for Carnival Bands, such as Rogue in Trinidad, Bajan Fuh Eva Mas in Miami and Riddim Tribe in London. In addition, she tackled the job of Stage Choreographer for Aura the Experience from 2018 to 2020, and most recently Vida by Esquire in 2023. taken in PowerHouse Academy of The Arts by @simply.simsimma
