🌱 Welcome to Simply Grown!

Hey there, I’m Lisa — your local garden coach here in Fairfield County, CT!

Simply Grown is all about helping YOU grow your own food, share it with friends & family, and build community right in your backyard veggie garden. 🥕🍅 🌸

My love for gardening began as a hobby when my kids were young and has grown into a full-on second career. After completing the NY Botanical Garden Horticulture program, I co-founded @norwalkgrows, a school garden partnership that installed gardens and provided hands-on food education in Norwalk schools.

Since then, I’ve been working in farm-to-school programs across Connecticut and helped launch the @ctftsinstitute to support schools in building robust, sustainable farm-to-school programs. One thing I’ve learned? The best way to get kids excited about eating vegetables is to teach them how to grow their own! 🌿

Now, with my kids grown, I’m here to bring that same passion to your garden — with step-by-step coaching, real-life tips, and plenty of encouragement. 💪

Our roots grow from 3 core values:
🌟 Joy – Gardens feed your body and your soul.
🌟 Confidence – Knowing where your food comes from & sharing it proudly.
🌟 Knowledge – Giving you the tools to grow like a pro.
So… are you ready to dig in and grow something amazing together? 🪴

Let’s turn your garden dreams into a fresh, delicious reality.

Last week we got your container soil ready. Now the fun part, what actually goes in them!

In Connecticut, late April/early May is a tale of two planting lists. The cold hardy crops are ready and waiting. The warm season favorites need a few more weeks before it’s safe to plant.

Save this list before your next local nursery run.

What are you most excited to grow this season? Let me know in the comments.

Part 2 of the Deck to Table CT series — growing real food in the containers you already have, all season long.

Most people toss last year’s potting mix without a second thought. But in most cases, you don’t need to start from scratch. You just need to give your soil a little love before the season begins.

This week I’m kicking off Deck to Table CT — a series for anyone who wants to grow real food in containers and small spaces. Whether you have a deck, a patio, or working with a tiny backyard, this season we’re doing it together.

Swipe through for my soil refresh method — the same approach I walk my clients through every spring.

New Blog Post - Back to School, Back to the Garden

Hands down, my favorite
garden season is the fall—and what could be more fall than back to school?

When my kids were younger, summer always felt like a sprint - travel lacrosse, swim team, summer jobs, camp, carpools, and finally our big family vacation. By the end of August, I was ready for a reset. September brought a shift—still busy days, yes, but also a rhythm and routine. I could breathe again. And what always gave me joy (and a little peace amongst the chaos) was my garden.
