I’m late. Wonderfruit was hard. I burrowed deep into an offline world in the aftermath but I’m back and armed with even more spicy energy and irreverent jokes for y’all this year.

Wonderfuit celebrates a decade of wonder this December. Whether it’s your 10th year or your first, this is your year. Our year. Let’s connect, reconnect, eat, dance and celebrate the special space in our lives that has given us so many wild and free memories over the years. (I’ve been to every single Wonderfruit 🫠)

The once (and still sometimes) queen of the afters just ran her first half marathon 👸

…11 days before live dates 🙃

Like most things in life, I freestyled it. I did zero training, got taken out by food poisoning just a few days before, and had five drinks and three cigarettes on the Friday night before the run (which was Sunday at 2am).

Because I hadn’t been training, I was scaaaared and planned to go super slow, maybe even walk a bit. I was expecting to finish at around three hours. Actually, the only goal was just to finish!!!

In the end, I completed 21km in 2:35:47 with an average pace of 7:25 🤩 I am not the fastest runner in the world, but bro, I just finished a half marathon 🫠

Music was so, soooo important, especially near the end when I started struggling. Here’s what got me through the last 5km:

1. Prodigy ‘Smack My Bitch Up’
2. Underworld ‘Born Slippy’
3. Bicep ‘Chroma 002’
4. Fat Boy Slim ‘Right Here, Right Now’
5. LCD Soundsystem ‘All My Friends’….which was an epic epic epic song for the last push to the finish line.

It was a cool 21 degrees, and the run went through the heart of Bangkok, starting at MBK and going around Lumpini Park all the way to the Democracy Monument before ending amid the twinkling lights of the Royal Grand Palace.

And finally, the neon Nike billboards that lit up the run with black and red motivations were 👌🏻

“No one can tell if it’s sweat or tears.” 😅

I cannot count nor do I want to think about the number of bad decisions I’ve made in my life—but the best decision I ever made was getting on that fateful flight to Taiwan in 2008.

A year in Asia turned into a decade and a half and while, admittedly, some things in this life have not turned out as planned, I’ve gotten more out of this ride than I ever dreamed possible. The places I’ve lived, the people I’ve met, the cultures I’ve learned, the experiences I’ve had…

I spent my 20s in Taiwan, a super potent time that shaped who I am today. How the island still flies under the radar is beyond me. Please, book a flight, and let me curate your trip.

Out with the bullshit, in with the good shit. Slid into the new year on skis (still got it!) with the people that matter most while breathing in the freshest/coldest air I’ve felt in 100 years.
