The first overhead tricks didn’t appear when freestyle scootering was created. We had to wait until 2002 to see the first Overhead in Scootering. The Back ScooterFlip is believed to have been invented by Cody Speake from the very first generation of scooter rider. Next came the Briflip, invented by Brian Boston in June 2004. At first, some riders called the trick the “Noodle Flip” or the “Impossible.” It was Steven Tongson who suggested the name “Brianflip,” which was soon shortened to “Briflip.” Finally, the first Front Briflip is believed to have been landed by Brandon Killbury, before he became a member of the original Proto Scooter team. *These informations was shared by Jesse Macaluso on Scooter Resource in October 2006. Today, we’re talking about the very first freestyle scooter forum. It launched in January 2003 and was created by pioneer Andrew Broussard, futur founder of PROTO Scooters. Back then, riders mainly shared their photos and videos on personal blogs, and there was almost no communication between the community. This forum gave the first generation of riders a place to connect and discuss everything from tricks to ways of strengthening and modifying their setups. The very first parts designed specifically for freestyle scooters were even sold through this forum. In Europe, the Trottirider forum would go on to connect riders and help grow the scoot culture. In this first episode, we travel back to the early 2000s to explore what is widely considered the very first freestyle scooter video*. Ali Kermani shares the story behind the creation of Scooterz, a VHS produced by Todd Grossman. Originally, Ali Kermani was supposed to film the video himself. Ali is a true pioneer of freestyle scootering, he was contacted by Razor even before the brand officially launched in May 2000. Together with Razor founder Carlton Calvin, they were among the first to envision the scooter as the next action sport. * Here, we’re referring to the first generation of Micro Scooters, which were the direct ancestors of the modern freestyle scooter.
