One final play before we pack our Halloween stash away. @petitpuffinplay is preparing to reopen the website this week with a new Christmas collection. And I can’t wait to see! Code CINDY10 will save you 10% at checkout. by @sincerely_cindya
Comment TRACE for resources My kids absolutely cannot resist the seasonal Trace the Shape activities from @projectbasedprimary. In fact, they often ask for them. They like the drawing aspect of the activity and the cutie characters, and I love that they’re working on their pencil grip while getting lots of practice with lines and curves, the strokes that will make up their written letter work, in a low pressure way. Use code CINDY10 if you’d like to grab some for yourself. There are options for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas too. by @sincerely_cindya
Who got stuck in the spider’s web? A fine motor invitation for spooky season. How we created our spooky friend rescue: 👻 Pour a sensory base into a container with high sides - dried beans or rice are simple pantry staples to pull 👻 Add spooky friends, seasonal finds or loose parts 👻 Create a spider web as a obstacle - we used Washi tape 👻 Provide tongs to facilitate the rescue and fine motor work Resources Felt friends: @taratreasures - code CINDY10 saves 10% Sensory mix: @playfulsenses_bynicole Wooden trays: @timbersprouttoys 3d printer fly files: @by.ashwiggins by @sincerely_cindya
Lucite tower… Halloween edition I am always absolutely flabbergasted by the way the cylindrical lucites bounce the light. The tall cylinders create this dreamy, creamy soft blend of colors with all the edges blurred together. And the rounds create overlapping orbs of colors. Have you noticed the difference in the light patterns? What’s your favorite? Resources: Lucite blocks and acrylic platforms: @playful.little.hearts - code CINDY10 saves 10% by @sincerely_cindya
I found the cutest little pumpkin pastas at HomeGoods (for less than $5) and immediately knew what had to be done. Cue this pumpkin patch sensory bin and hands-on math lesson complete with number puzzles from @projectbasedprimary that sneak in all the good stuff: 🎃 number recognition + counting 🎃 ten frames + tally marks 🎃 1:1 correspondence 🎃 comparing quantities Resources: Pumpkin number puzzles: @projectbasedprimary - code CINDY10 saves 10% Felt pumpkins and vines: @taratreasures - code CINDY10 Mat: @hoyoexplore Pumpkin pasta: HomeGoods by @sincerely_cindya
Today’s math lesson: Run the diner I love leaning into play to solidify new concepts we are learning. Restaurant and shopping play in particular bring a variety of individual skills together in a way thats both useful and fun. In fact, the boys had so much fun running their diner that they kept playing long after our lesson was done. Skills at work: * Navigating/reading menus * Communication, manners and role playing through order taking * Building equations * Handwriting * Addition and subtraction * Money sense - counting out the money and figuring out the change Resources: Diner play pieces, minis and printables: @cureightedco code CINDY10 saves 10% Wooden house, cars and people: @lovevery observer Play Kit Chalkboard: @chalkfullofdesign by @sincerely_cindya
Comment HARVEST for resources The easiest way to make learning stick is to make it hands-on. And since we can’t actually harvest pumpkins on the farm today, we bring the lesson to life through play. Resources Felts: @taratreasures - use code CINDY10 to save 10% by @sincerely_cindya
If you build it, they will come. I started stacking lucite blocks in a sunny spot and was surrounded by eager helpers before I even finished. After exploring the tower, they started moving blocks around to mix colors, catch the light, and evolve the build. This is why I love open ended resources. A simple invitation can spark hours of creative play. Resources Lucite blocks and platforms: @playful.little.hearts - code CINDY10 saves 10% by @sincerely_cindya
Does your beginning speller know the cat + kite trick? We’re getting into more advanced spelling rules in first grade, and I’m always happy to find a little trick that makes things easier for us both. Here’s the gist: C goes with A, O, and U (cat!), while K steps in for E and I (kite!). A simple little drawing trick to help kids remember when to use C or K at the beginning of a word. Add this one to your beginning speller’s toolbox! Comment SQUISH and I’ll send you the details on our most favorite dough. Idk about you, but we live for spooky season over here. We rock Halloween jammies all year, obsess over skeletons and prepare potions on repeat. But in October, our favorite tradition returns… spooky rides. Each night, we ride around the neighborhood listening to Halloween bangers while we check out the decorations. 10/10 recommend for easy Halloween fun. Lucite blocks and sunlight 🤌🏻💋 It has been so relentlessly gloomy here in the northeast so when we saw sun FINALLY in the forecast, I was sure to decorate the windows so we’d be greeted to the most magical morning light.
