Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives, 1991.

First tune I heard on the radio this morning... Didn't like it when it first came out, but such is the folly of youth! Definitely one of the all-time greatest house classics which has aged like a fine wine and still fills dancefloors 30 years later with the dopest piano breaks and strongest karaoke lyrics, courtesy of house maestros Frankie Knuckles and David Morales and songwriter Lars Kronlund.

Used some foam rubber to make the piano keys and body parts, put them on an ink pad and pressed them into some paper to make a rough shape. Then scanned them and rearranged in PS, with a hefty influence from the opener of Catch Me If You Can.

First ever rave I went to was in the Point Depot in Dec 1993, tickets were about €15 for a line-up with The Prodigy, N-Joi and K-Klass. Totally blew my mind. Nearly 30 years later, I'm still listening to that same sound and I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING LOVE THAT PIANO BREAK. Tunes like this have aged like a fine wine.

I've got some 12"x12" prints available on my Etsy along with other assorted stickers, tees and whatnot via my Threadless and Redbubble stores - #linkinbio👆

One of the all-time great techno classics which made the blueprint for countless numbers of tunes released over the past 30 years. The vast majority of 12" put out then were on white labels or dubplates with no sleeve art - this is part of a series of 60s style graphic design for acid house and techno anthems, and to flex the 2d design chops...

More mid-century design vibes, heavily influenced by jazz, Blue Note, Reid Miles and more 1960s design styles where they made some of the best imagery of the time with basic dots, lines and triangles

In the 60s, there were seemingly infinite numbers of sleeves using abstract shapes, dots and lines to convey the sound of their records.

I've always been a fan, so I used the Covid downtime to make some similar 1960s / mid century/ jazz themed prints of my favourite acid house and techno tunes from the late 80s through to the mid 90s.

This is the first batch I've got printed up by the great folks @dublinprintco - Positive Education, Yé ké Yé ké, Promised Land, Voodoo Ray, Your Love, Rhythm is a Mystery and Strings of Life - more on the way soon.

12" x 12" prints on 180 gsm stock.
€15 each + signed for postage €5 Ireland / €10 EU/UK.

Free delivery by bike in Dublin city.

"....Always correct spelling..."
Womwom, wumwum, womwom, wumwum.

One of the finest techno records ever, visualized to look 1960s, mid-century, jazz style.
Part of a big personal project of prints I've been working on.

This tune completely passed me by way back and despite my life long love of house, techno, dnb and all things electronic, I've only discovered it in recent years. Still on point in message and music though, especially now with all the racist police brutality in the US right now.
Part of a bigger personal project I'm working on with more of the same 1960's style abstract reworking/restyling of classic house and techno tunes.

blackrockskatepark.com is now live.

Goddamn enormous concept plans weighing in at 3440 x 1440.

Write-ups and examples of some downright BANGING street spots, parks and plazas to influence and guide designs and builds further down the line.

Like // share // subscribe and all that jazz.

As ever, it's all just ideas at this stage. No budget or anything related as yet. It's a tiny part of the Blackrock master plan from DLR CoCo, which may or may not go ahead.

Set up this other account recently to help get some ideas and designs together for a skatepark earmarked by @dlrcoco.ie for Blackrock park.
The last thing we need there is more prefab ramps - what we need are legit skatepark companies and designers like @canvas_sps, @constructoskateparks, @concreteproofskateparks
and more involved.

Website and more designs in the works.

This summer, it's 20 years since TWS released Modus Operandi. I always loved that line from Korupt's Trilogy in Mike Carroll's part - "I got pistols, pills, acid, bomb, crank, crystallized coke and lines, I don't give a fuck..." Which seems like a mean list of things to stockpile, especially given the current Covid-19 clusterfuck, along with dildo helicopters / dildocopters and confetti cannons... Seems apt to put this out here today, given the day that's in it.

Halving the number of dimensions I normally work with to create a series of graphics based on old #chicagohouse #acidhouse #techno and assorted electronic releases in a minimalist, abstract jazz style.

There's loads more ready for 12" x 12" prints and yet more works in progress.

tl;dr? Cool story about me and how great I think I am.

After I finished the still design, this quickly snowballed into an almighty mess of a project . If you're going to animate a piano, it's got to look the part and this was a total ballache. I found a YT tutorial on how to play Strings of Life, so I copied the keys the guy played and eventually, managed to line it up. No chance of getting some cool automated setting to animate the keys, or doing it with a noise layer, or even a Wild West style piano punch sheet. All keyframed. Luckily, that piano break is only 11 seconds long, and it loops *relatively* easily.

Once that was sorted, I started on the cables and tags dropping. Most of the time, it didn't work, they don't connect properly and the physics look a bit wrong - managed to hide it in the edit, haha... Again it's something that needs constant redoing to get it right and you can't copy and paste it for all the different versions, all have to be done to order.

And then there was the rendering. Most frames took 60-90s each, so that took aaages, with several shots needing re-rendering, of course, or working out when editing them together that I needed a load more.
All that for a personal project I've been working on between paid jobs and whatnot.
