This is exactly why I don’t overlook indie comics… It’s about finding a series I wasn’t expecting to enjoy…Then suddenly realizing I can’t wait for the next issue.Tigress Island has been exactly that.What pulled me in at first was the artwork, but the longer I’ve followed the series, the more I’ve appreciated how it balances action, mystery, and humor without ever feeling like it’s trying too hard.It has this fun throwback energy that reminds me of those over the top action movies from the ’80s, while still keeping enough mystery to make you wonder what secrets the island is hiding.I also love that every character feels different. Nobody fades into the background, and that makes every issue feel unpredictable.Then there’s the artwork.EPHK’s style immediately stands out. The expressive faces, unique character designs, and atmosphere give the series a look that’s completely its own. But the completely white eyes is something intriguing and I can’t look away. Some books catch your eye because of a flashy cover…This one keeps your attention because the whole world feels unique.That’s why I picked up both Cover A and Cover C. Not every comic grabs my attention because of a flashy cover.Sometimes it’s the opposite.This Ryan Ottley 1:10 Design Variant for Hulk N° 1 | 2021 | is one of those books.I’ve always loved design variants because they feel like you’re seeing the creative process instead of just the finished product. The rough lines, notes, and clean character focus make it feel less like a comic cover and more like you’re looking over the artist’s shoulder while the character is coming to life.Ryan Ottley’s Hulk has exactly the kind of energy I picture when I think of the character. Massive. Powerful. Barely contained.It’s a reminder that Hulk doesn’t need a city exploding in the background to look intimidating. I’ll admit it…The title is what got my attention. It’s #wierdwednesday I’m finally getting to post this awesomeness. Florida Hippopotamus Co€a!n£ Massacre sounded so ridiculous that I had to see if it could possibly live up to the name.It did.And somehow… it exceeded my expectations.By the time I got to Issue N°4, I wasn’t reading it because of the outrageous premise anymore. I was reading it because I genuinely cared about this over the top world and the characters living in it.This final chapter doesn’t slow down for a second. It’s packed with wild action, hilarious one liners, outrageous villains, and exactly the kind of “did that really just happen?” moments that made me fall in love with the series in the first place. It feels like an ’80s action movie, a Saturday morning cartoon, and a grindhouse film all smashed together and somehow it works.That’s what I love about indie comics.Sometimes they take chances that the big publishers never would, and you end up discovering something completely unforgettable.Honestly… I wasn’t ready for it to end.If @fearless_fred and @james_edward_clark announced another mini-series tomorrow, it’d be an instant pull for me. Every superhero team has its defining lineup. It’s #TeamUpTuesdayFor me…It’s always been the Original X-Men.Cyclops. Marvel Girl. Beast. Angel. Iceman.This team wasn’t the biggest, the strongest, or the flashiest. Some artists have a style that’s instantly recognizable. 🩸 #HotMommaMondayJenny Frison is one of them.The moment I saw this Vampirella N° 2 | 2025 | Jenny Frison Variant |I knew it was finding a spot in my collection. There’s something about Frison’s work that feels timeless. She doesn’t rely on explosions or oversized action scenes to grab your attention. Instead, she lets the character do all the talking.That’s exactly why I appreciate this cover.Vampirella has always been one of those characters whose covers blur the line between comic book art and fine art. Every detail, from the lighting to the expression, feels carefully planned instead of overdone.I love collecting books like this because they remind me that not every comic has to be a major key issue to earn a place on the shelf. Every once in a while…A cover makes you stop scrolling before you even realize why. It’s #SniktSundayThat was this Generation X23 N° 3 Ivan Talavera variant.The longer I looked at it, the more I appreciated how much it accomplishes with so little. Strong composition, incredible detail, and Laura Kinney front and center without anything distracting from the character.That’s one of my favorite things about collecting variants.Not every memorable cover needs explosions, giant battles, or ten characters fighting across the page. #ShowAndTellSaturday N° 13I don’t just show a book… I tell my story behind it.📖 Double Dragon N° 1 & N° 2 | 1991Published by Marvel ComicsIt’s 1988.“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan had just won the first-ever Royal Rumble, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was blowing everyone’s mind… oh Jessica, Sweet Child O’ Mine was climbing the charts, and every kid I knew suddenly wanted to learn karate.Me?I just wanted to beat Double Dragon.Before online gaming, voice chat, and downloadable content, there was one TV, one Nintendo, and whichever friend got to Player 1 first.My house became headquarters.We’d spend hours trying to punch our way through the Black Warriors, accidentally elbowing each other during the platforming sections, and arguing over who got to be Billy and who was “stuck” playing Jimmy.The funny part?None of us were actually good.We’d lose all our lives, blame the controller, reset the game, and somehow convince ourselves that this was going to be the winning run.Spoiler…It usually wasn’t. 😂Then Marvel released Double Dragon 1 and 2.Of course I had to have them.Anything Double Dragon instantly grabbed my attention.Looking back, I don’t remember every page of these comics.But I remember sitting cross-legged on the living room floor, a can of pop beside me, friends yelling at the TV, and hearing “One more game!” about twenty times before someone’s mom told us it was time to go home.Funny how comics can bring back memories that have nothing to do with comics.💬 Collector Question of the DayWhich video game instantly takes you back to your childhood?#DoubleDragon #NES #comiccollector #80snostalgia by @sinisterstacks
