On our tour of #Ghent last fall, we passed by a great many churches. We quickly realized that Ghent is a city where churches are not merely #buildings, but living testimonies to a rich past. The majestic #towers of these monuments not only shape the city’s skyline, but also serve as gateways to a past full of stories.

As the first parish #church in what was then the Netherlands to feature emancipated urban architecture, St. Nicholas Church tells the story of Ghent over the centuries. It is a place where speed and dynamism go hand in hand with a growing urban population and evolving #architectural trends.

The view of #Ghent from the water is absolutely charming. We took a #boat ride during our #city #trip last year in October. There are various boat tours organised on the rivers and# canals in Ghent.

It’s not far from Antwerp to #Ghent. From there, @martin.boeckmann and I took a day trip last fall. Ghent is located in northwestern #Belgium in the #Flanders region and, with a population of about 265,000, is the country’s third-largest city after Brussels and Antwerp. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Ghent experienced an economic boom thanks to the cloth industry. Today, Ghent is a vibrant university city with a rich #history, well-preserved #architecture, and a strong focus on sustainability and culture.

In the very heart of #Antwerp stands a majestic building whose tower seems to touch the sky: the #Cathedral of Our Lady. The Cathedral of Our Lady is an outstanding example of Brabant #Gothic, a distinct style of Gothic #architecture that emerged in the region of the former Duchy of Brabant (now parts of #Belgium and the Netherlands)
