Failover System for Resolume: Complete!

The moment Resolume or the OS on the main machine freezes or crashes, video, audio, and Art-Net are automatically switched to the backup system. Manual switching is, of course, available at any time.
Art-Net—used for controlling projectors and LED pixel maps—is being monitored via Protokol on an iPad, temporarily propped up against the monitor for demonstration purposes.
The switching system relies on a custom FFGL plugin that outputs a keep-alive audio signal, along with conditional logic handled by QLab.
The only thing left might be replacing the BMD VideoHub with a CleanSwitch to eliminate the blank frame during switching—though it always introduces a one-frame delay.
It’s been a year and a half since I finished the QLab version, but this was the ultimate goal. A total win.

Note: In the video, there is about a one-second blank during switching, but this is due to the specifications of the SDI monitor being used (the gray screen is also for the same reason). In reality, the switch takes only about 1 to 3 frames.

Resolume用フェイルオーバーシステム、完成。
メイン機のResolumeやOSがフリーズまたはクラッシュした瞬間に、映像／音声／Art-Netすべてがバックアップ機に、自動で切り替わる。もちろん手動でも、いつでも。Art-Netはモニターに立てかけたiPadで仮モニタリングしてます。あとは、VideoHubをCleanSwitchに置き換えれば、切替時のブランクも埋まるかも（常時１フレ遅延するけど）。
QLab版の完成から一年半が経ったけど、やりたかったことはできた。完勝です。

注：動画内では切り替え時のブランクが1秒程度ありますが、これは使用しているSDIモニターの仕様によるもので (グレーになっているのも同様)、実際には１〜３フレーム程度で切り替わります。

A live painting plugin that allows the use of images or video sources as custom brushes.
All parameters—such as position, size, and color—as well as effect toggles and other controls are operated via TouchOSC on an iPad.(The TouchOSC interface is shown via NDI for demonstration purposes.)
When combined with built-in or custom effects, this enables more dynamic and expressive visual creations.

Testing different shapes and colors. Path drawing, coloring — everything happens inside Resolume. In the end, though, projecting simple shapes onto the floor from a ceiling-mounted projector just feels right.

シェイプとカラーを中心にいろいろテスト。パス描画からカラーリングまで、すべてResolume内部で完結。と、いろいろやってみたものの、結局シンプルな形状を単色で、天吊りプロジェクターから投影するのが一番気持ち良さそう。

Control multiple effect Bypass buttons at once. Assigned it to audio, and somehow it turned into an upside-down level meter. Also, clip speed and playback direction.

エフェクトのBypassボタンを一括制御。オーディオに割り当てたら、なんか逆レベルメーターみたいな動きに。ついでにクリップのスピードと再生方向も。

I’ve been working on this OSC-based internal sync plugin for four or five years now, and it’s pretty much become a life project. This is definitely not the part I should be making a video about, but this kind of thing is always the most fun. I couldn’t resist.
Something I’ve been slowly nurturing all these years is finally getting close to the form I’ve always envisioned. Quite a feeling.
Probably the most pointless audio-reactive video in the world, but behind it is probably the most valuable implementation — and plugin — I’ve ever built.

かれこれ4〜5年作り続けて、もはやライフワークになりつつあるOSC内部同期プラグイン。動画にすべきなのは絶対そこじゃないけど、こういうのが一番楽しくて思わず。
大切に大切に育ててきたものがようやく理想の形に近づきつつあり、感慨もひとしお。
この世で一番意味のないオーディオリアクティブ動画だけど、プラグインとしては過去イチ価値のある実装です。
