Once again amazed at the creative clip of @lilyseabird. Some of these songs are not even ten months old, and they were only put to tape the first week of January. Trash Mountain is still warm. I'm so grateful @lameorecords and @secretlydistribution wanted to match Lily's energy and immediacy. To be an artist is hard in a zillion ways, but to finish a piece of art and have to wait to share it has gotta be up there.

More importantly, what Lily's hard work has amounted to is Lightspheres on Their Way, her boldest record yet, her quietest, her loudest, her strangest, her darkest, her most hopeful. Out the gate, she's questioning God on "The Pulley" over three verses stretched across six droning minutes. Then, "Bindlestiff," a song made of ten rapidfire verses about boring wandering men in three minutes. These are far too reductive of descriptors, but these are big swings, and they continue like that for the next seven songs. "Blackstar" remains my favorite, gentle and ominous, specific enough to shoutout @magicrockersoftexas but abstractions thrown in to get you thinking about tuning your heartbeat like the radio.

Half the record is out digitally as singles, so if you like what you hear, please consider getting a CD or LP at your favorite independent record store this month. It'll be on digital later, but it feels nice to deprioritize digital, which itself deprioritizes the album format (psst you can purchase mp3s and wavs via @bandcamp). Again, grateful Lily has a label + distro that have her back.

Hey this is tomorrow! Menu on slide 2! Proof of beef on slide 4! Only 25-30 sandwiches available, I'm told. In the immortal words of Robyn, "come thru, it'll be cool."

Glad to have Oxford's @wonderbirdspirits in the mix. I'm reviving a cocktail from @dashiramen with their dry gin, which they make with local Mississippi jasmine rice and lemongrass, amongst many other things, how about that! Expect a spicy smoky gin guy.

Bienvenue Welcome! Happy Canada Day! I'm hosting a lil popup with my friends at @bar.pomona called Sipsman's on July 21 from 5-10pm.

Many don't know that I've bartended on and off alongside music projects for about 20 years. (Surprisingly, "Sipsman" does not come from my bartending life.) At the start, it allowed me to work in the music industry for paltry wages, and let's be honest it still does. When I moved to New Orleans a few years back, I thought it would be fun to try mashing these worlds together in some way, and I'm so happy Sara and the Pomona folks are down to chase that AND our shared love of the Montreal Jewish delicatessen and the casse-croûte.

Chef Eliza will be curing > smoking > steaming beef brisket (a 10-day process) sourced by @thejointbbq to make a classic viande fumée, sliced and piled high with yellow mustard on rye bread. There will be ketchup chips. There will be an approximation of a Vermont creemee for dessert. There will be a healthy salad thing, too, chill. I'll be making cocktails I've had on menus of places that largely don't exist anymore and cocktails I make for friends at my house. I'm particularly enamored by the local @traiteuramaro and have a good spritz in the works. I found some old Expos and Canadiens games to watch on the TVs, and I'll play music from Sipsman releases and artists from Montreal and New Orleans and more.
