Clay Delivery Katariina Guthwert & Juan Pablo Manríquez (2026) Clay Delivery is a multidisciplinary work combining sculpture, sound, video and performance. It explores locality through wild clay collected in Helsinki and the Paris region, as well as through a soundscape recorded in a specific place and moment. The work began with a performance in the intimicy of our bedroom/studio at Cité internationale des arts in August 2026. Clay collected in Paris region was mixed while Helsinki clay was being dragged and crushed. Sounds of the clay, the room, the audience and the streets of Paris were recorded throughout the performance. The piece contains ceramic reliefs, that are based on photographs of the performance and its audience. The people portrayed are friends and fellow artists from Cité internationale des arts, who also contributed photographs and video footage used in the audiovisual work. The reliefs combine Helsinki and Paris clay as slip and crushed ceramic material. The work brings together two artist that work closely together, local clays from two countries, a site-specific soundscape and the people we met during the residency 💖 Come and say hiii! Open studios 7.10.2026, 6-9 pm Cité Internationale des Arts Main building, 5th floor, room 8516 18 Rue de l'hôtel de ville 75004 Paris by @sir_manriquez
⭕️ OON ajassa -näyttelyn avajaisissa kuullaan äänitaiteilija, tuottaja, muusikko Juan-Pablo Manríquezin Sound of Clay -musiikkiperformanssi, jossa musiikkia tuotetaan Katariina Guthwertin keramiikkaveistoksen avulla. ⭕️ "Sound of Clay" is a sculptural instrument concert, where the exploration of sounds produced by a ceramic sculpture becomes the protagonist.Through different techniques, the sculpture is played as an instrument, revealing textures, resonances and unexpected tones hidden within its material becoming the vocabulary of the piece, transforming the sculpture from a silent object into a sounding body. ⭕️ Pe 25.9. klo 19.00 Kutomosali (TR5, 4. krs) ⭕️ Tutustu tekijöihin @sir_manriqez @katariinaguthwert #taiteilijato20 #oonajassa #tadweek #soundofclay by @sir_manriquez
Endemic Cycles of Clay, 2025- Katariina Guthwert ja Juan Pablo Manríquez Audiovisuaalinen teos, Helsingin savi, kuparilanka Endemic Cycles of Clay on kuvataiteilija Katariina Guthwertin ja äänitaiteilija Juan Pablo Manríquezin paikkasidonnainen mediateos, jonka on kuvannut Luis Bustamante. @katariinaguthwert @sir_manriquez @luchomuchacho #villitaide2 #kainuunkaoliini #kaoliinifestivaali #kaoliinifestivaali2026 by @sir_manriquez

ENDEMIC CYCLES OF CLAY This sound sculpture is one part of a three-part mixed-media piece, created together with @katariinaguthwert alongside an audiovisual work and a clay sculpture. The mixed-media piece is all about wild clay. The audiovisual work documents the collection of local wild clay in Keskuspuisto, and the audio and music were created using only clay sounds and mechanical analog feedback to generate harmonic content. The clay sculpture was made using the clay collected in the video. It combines fired and unfired clay and was finished on site. The third part is the sound sculpture, made from leftover clay that was not used in the sculpture created by Guthwert. The leftover pieces were fired at different temperatures to produce different pitches. I'm really happy with the result of this piece and I'm in love with the sound of this sculpture ❤️ by @sir_manriquez
Meet the artist & co-organizer: Juan Pablo Manríquez Juan Pablo is a musician, composer and sound artist based in Helsinki. He has been involved with sound and music for 20 years. In recent years, his experimentation with mechanical and acoustic techniques have led to the development of unconventional sounds. Additionally, he has worked on interactive audiovisual installations. In 2024 he started his latest project, Endemic compositions, a project based on the exploration of the sounds within different spaces, composing musical pieces utilizing the space as an instrument, exploring the fascinating relationship between sound and space. For Manríquez, endemism is expressed through sounds that exist only in specific places or through specific materials. Exhibition free of charge. by @sir_manriquez
