Wagashi refer to the traditional sweets eaten during Japanese tea ceremonies. These very special wagashi are typically made for important celebrations are regarded as a luxury. Ever since I had the privilege of eating one during my trip to Japan, I made a non stop effort to capturing the flavours I ate during that experience.

And now I can finally bring it to you.

These wagashi are called nerikiri which are soft hand carved sweet bean cakes often decorated with designs that match the season, while mine are not seasonal I thought I’d make some eye catching designs to give these under-appreciated cultural deserts the attention they deserve.

I had lots of fun making these traditional Japanese treats. Though now I run the issue of not being able to eat them because of how well they turned out.😅

Wagashi are traditional confections, synonymous with traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. The kind of wagashi I made for this lunar new year are called Nerikiri, a soft and sweet bean cake often carved with seasonal elements and while mine are certainly not in tune with the season I hope my eye catching designs can bring these deliciously edible deserts into the spotlight they deserve.

Concept Pastel newborn letter card designs.

The Assignment asked for a mute pastel color scheme.

A rather basic exploration drawing inspiration from dollar store greeting cards. I wanted to capture its sterile “adobe stocks” feel while still feeling like a cohesive and original design.

Caribbean procure cover concept from my graphic design course. It was a simple warmup and obviously not my best work, but the requirements required me to make simple graphics using basic shapes and minimal textures specifically with a complementary colour scheme.

Given that I wanted it to be warm and inviting I chose a stylized 80s retro.

It was given an excellent score but I’m still quite unsatisfied with how uncreative it is.
