Forty years ago today, the legendary Dionne Warwick changed my world by choosing me as musical director for the iconic 80s TV series, Solid Gold. A decade of making music together turned into a lifelong friendship, for which I am very grateful.

‘Twas a nice surprise to see this track I produced being released this month on Rhino Records to coincide with the new Aretha Franklin movie, “RESPECT“, starring Jennifer Hudson!

“Méditation” from Thaïs by Jules Massenet

I first heard this piece played on trumpet by @hudsontrumpet and loved the way he made the trumpet sound so natural and so pure. His performance inspired me to learn it and try my own version. It’s not quite to his level but i still hope you enjoy. I was also inspired by @wyntonmarsalis purity of sound and @clarkandgwenterry circular breathing.

There’s so much to learn from a piece like this, especially when there are no high notes and you are just trying to play a beautiful melody as musically as you can.

Thank you to Caleb Hudson for the inspiration, to Jules Massenet for writing such timeless music, and to my trumpet teacher and mentor, Michael Miller, for everything he continues to teach me about playing and making music. 🎺

“Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla, performed at the Prescott Jazz Summit 2026.

Big thanks to Mike Vax for inviting me to be part of the festival. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play with so many incredible musicians and to share the stage with such great players.

Also, a special thank you to my trumpet teacher, Mickle, for all the guidance and encouragement along the way.

It was a really special experience, and I’m thankful to everyone who made it happen. Hope you enjoy!

Excerpts from "Stevie's Wonders”

This performance was from the Prescott Jazz Summit on 8/29/26. Much gratitude to jazz trumpet legend Mike Vax for inviting me to be a guest artist at this wonderful festival, which he has organized for the past 25 years.

I’d also like to express my thanks to my trumpet mentor, Michael Miller, who arranged and conducted this piece, and put so much time and care into its preparation. 🎺

To see a future live performance of me playing this, come to the @klaipedajazz festival in Lithuania on June 25, 2027!

So grateful to Tower of Power for letting me sit in with them! This concert took place on July 19, 2026 in Sacramento, CA, and these excerpts are from “Knock Yourself Out“, “You’re Still a Young Man” and “What Is Hip“!

Huge thanks to: Emilio Castillo, Doc Kupka, Jordan John, Tom Politzer, Dave Richards, Adolfo Acosta, Jerry Cortez, Marc “VW” van Wageningen, Pete Antunes and Mike Jerel.

Everyone was so kind and fun, it made for a memorable and truly once in a lifetime experience. This band is made up of world class musicians, and in my opinion, is one of the greatest band that still exists today.

And much gratitude to my trumpet mentor @sirmickle for setting up this opportunity with Tower of Power and putting this video together.

Setup:
