🎶 Unscored [No. 1] 🎶
Thomas Shorthouse. Thomas is a
young composer, currently studying at the Royal College of Music. His work moves between structure and freedom, searching for the spaces where sound and silence meet.

Unscored is a portrait series exploring the inner worlds and untold stories of young musicians. These portraits make their creativity visible — a glimpse of what exists beyond the music itself.

What does creativity sound like before it finds the page?
And what can we learn about it from a single image? @thomas.shorthouse

Thank you Sophie for your provocative questions! Robert shared his views on the potential threat of AI (or not?) to human connection, considering social habits of young people today as well as the centuries-old tradition of bell-ringing.

An unforgettable 25th anniversary celebration ✨

We were delighted to welcome friends and supporters to the beautiful Savile Club for a very special evening of music, performed by four exceptional young harpists.

The occasion celebrated everything at the heart of Cherubim Music Trust: outstanding young musicians, extraordinary instruments and the generosity that brings them together.

Cherubim has now supported more than 400 musicians, and our collection of over 80 instruments continues to help talented performers fulfil their potential.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening so memorable. Here’s to the next chapter! 🎶

Three harps playing together — not something you see every day!

A special moment from the finale of the Cherubim Music Trust’s 25th Anniversary celebration at the Savile Club, with three of the Trust’s young harpists performing together.

It was a pleasure to photograph this wonderful evening celebrating 25 years of supporting and nurturing young musical talent.

New portrait | Stephen Bradley

Really pleased to see this portrait I made of composer, orchestrator, producer and pianist @stephen.j.bradley now featured on the homepage of his new website.

I love seeing a portrait find its place within an artist’s identity and become the image through which their work is introduced.

A pleasure to photograph you, @stephen.j.bradley

Amazing shots captured by the incredible photographer @sisiburn 📸 from an awesome recording session a couple weeks back at Lightship 95 recording studio @lightship95 🚢 🎙️, recording the score for an upcoming dark fantasy animated movie I’m excited to be working on about a boy made of porcelain ~ Blackwater, directed by Charles Brisson 🎞️.

What an adventure! ⚓️

Equally incredible musicians 🎻 featured here @emilyamesmusic , @mary_lias30 , @becca.marr , @ezraescobar_ and @theasayer_bassist . Also pics of killer composer @phoebegreenland lending her voice and the wonderful guitarist @m_vosmirova 🌊 who also kicked ass! 🎶

Thanks to Giles Barrett for the fantastic engineering throughout!

A few frames of Daniel Bartholomew Poyser from my time photographing him at Grange Festival earlier this summer with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra.

Daniel has that rare quality that makes him incredibly rewarding to photograph — completely present in the moment, expressive and full of character.

This Tuesday, he appears with the BBC Concert Orchestra for Bond and Beyond at the BBC Proms.

Different stage, different repertoire, but no doubt the same extraordinary energy.

Wishing Daniel a fantastic Prom — I’ll be following from the sidelines this time. 🎶

How do you photograph a creative practice?

A recent commission for @stylusarchitects allowed me to photograph the people behind the practice within the spaces they have helped create.

Rather than simply using the architecture as a backdrop, I wanted the surroundings to tell us something about the people themselves — their work, their ideas and the creative world they inhabit.

It's an approach I particularly enjoy: making portraits where the relationship between person and place becomes part of the story.

I've written a little more about the commission and shared more photographs on my blog. https://sisiburn.com/people-place-process-environmental-portraits-for-stylus-architects/
